Review of Coastal Celebration ferry
MS Coastal Celebration ferry is a Ro-Ro passenger vessel owned and operated by the Canadian company BC FERRIES. The ship has a maximum capacity of 1,604 passengers and 310 cars. Launched in 2008, the vessel currently operates on the Vancouver Island ferry route Tsawwassen–Swartz Bay / Victoria BC, with a crossing time of 1.5 hours.
Cabins
The Coastal Celebration ferry has no cabins (passenger staterooms) due to the short duration of the crossing. Instead, the ship offers ample seating, including a Reserved Seating Lounge with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, satellite TV programming, its own bar, and comfortable leather recliners.

Coastal Celebration ferry Wiki
All three Germany-built Coastal-class vessels in the BC FERRIES fleet are currently the world's largest double-ended passenger ferries. These state-owned vessels were constructed in Flensburg, Germany. The sisterships operate on Canada's busiest ferry routes, connecting mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island, serving ports such as Tsawwassen, Swartz Bay, Duke Point, Nanaimo/Horseshoe Bay, and Departure Bay.
The first ship in the series, Coastal Renaissance, departed the German shipyard on October 27, 2007, and arrived in Victoria (BC, Canada) on December 13. She entered service on March 8, 2008. The second vessel, Coastal Inspiration, left the shipyard on February 9, 2018, arrived in Victoria on March 25, and began operations on June 16. The third vessel, Coastal Celebration, departed Germany on May 9, 2018, arrived in Victoria on June 18, and entered service on November 21.
The shipbuilding contract, signed in September 2004, cost BC FERRIES a total of EUR 206.4 million (CAD 325 million). Each vessel is powered by four MAK marine diesel engines (model 8M32C), delivering a total power output of 16 MW.
The double-ended ferry design allows vehicles to be loaded and unloaded from both the bow and stern. These ferries are primarily used on short routes, including river crossings, as the design reduces maneuvering time, fuel consumption, and docking risks. A unique feature of these ships is their duplicated propulsion system, with identical units installed at both ends, providing enhanced stopping power and superior maneuverability compared to standard ferries.
Each year, BC FERRIES signs contracts with shipyards in British Columbia, investing over USD 60 million annually in fleetwide drydock refits/refurbishments and general vessel maintenance.
