Green Ship Peter Pan ferry Review

Review of Green Ship Peter Pan ferry

MS Peter Pan ferry (also known as Green Ship Peter Pan) is a Ro-Pax passenger vessel operated by the German company TT-LINE. The ship has a maximum capacity of 866 passengers and 220 trucks (semi-trailers). The vessel was launched in 2022 (inaugurated in 2023) and currently operates on the Sweden–Poland ferry route TrelleborgSwinoujscie (crossing time ~6 hours).

The vessel (IMO number 9880946) is currently Cyprus-flagged (MMSI 210510000, Limassol registry) and is to be reflagged to Germany (MMSI TBA) and registered in Rostock.

Of the same Green Ship class is the sistership Nils Holgersson (built 2022). Notably, for 22 years (2001–2023), “Peter Pan” was the name of TT-LINE’s 2001-built ship Tinker Bell.

Cabins

As a cruise ferry, Peter Pan has a total of 239 cabins with 866 berths (of which 644 are bunks). All staterooms are air-conditioned, non-smoking, and have en-suite bathrooms (washbasin, WC, shower, hairdryer) and LED lighting. The ferry company provides bed linens, towels, and toiletries.

Cabin amenities include a phone, bedside table, wall-mounted reading lamps, TV (satellite reception), lower twin beds (fixed, size 2 x 0.8 m), upper bunk bed (wall-mounted), mirrored vanity/dressing table with chair, and wardrobe.

MS Peter Pan staterooms are located on two decks (9–10) and are offered in the following categories:

  • 4-bed Panorama Suite (34 m2; window, bathtub, sofabed, minibar, 250 MB free Wi-Fi)
  • 4-bed Baltic Outside Cabin (22 m2; window, bunk beds, minibar, 250 MB free Wi-Fi)
  • 2-bed Front Deluxe Outside Cabin (16 m2; window, 2 lower beds)
  • 2-bed Front Outside Cabin (window, 2 lower beds)
  • 4-bed Twin Outside Cabin (window, 2 lower beds plus 2 upper bunks)
  • 2-bed Twin Outside Cabin (window, 2 lower beds)
  • 4-bed Twin Inside Cabin (2 lower beds plus 2 upper bunks; no windows)

  • Day cabins are also available for booking. Day cabins accommodate passengers from 1 hour after departure until 1 hour prior to arrival.

Pet cabins (for passengers traveling with pets) feature linoleum flooring. On night crossings, pets may travel only within pet-friendly cabins. If pet cabins are fully booked, animals are not allowed to board.

GoSleep sleeping pods are available on Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn (located on decks 3–4). These movable pods provide noise and light isolation from other passengers. Under-seat storage accommodates hand luggage (maximum size 60 x 50 x 27 cm). The pod chairs have USB ports and chargers, allowing passengers to use computers and phones onboard.

All passengers must vacate their staterooms 30 minutes prior to homeport arrival.

Charging cables are permanently connected to the EV points; using personal vehicle cables is not possible or permitted. The crew starts and stops charging and allocates vehicles to specific stations.

Online booking for battery charging is required and can be made during the cruise booking (add “Power” to the booking). Such vehicles have a fixed parking space (at a specific charging station) where they remain parked during the crossing.

Green Ship Peter Pan ferry Wiki

The vessel was initially assigned the names "JIN LING 89" (yard identification) and "JLZ8180223" (hull number, between 2021-2022). From the same shipbuilder (AVIC CMI Jinling Nanjing Shipyard in Nanjing, China) are the STENA GROUP E-Flexer ferries.

Construction of Peter Pan’s sistership Nils Holgersson began in December 2019 and she was delivered to TT-LINE in March 2022 (in service since April 26).

Peter Pan was launched (floated out from drydock) on July 14, 2021, and officially delivered to TT-Line Germany on November 28, 2022. The vessel departed China (Yantai) on December 9. During her repositioning voyage to Europe, she made bunkering stops in Singapore (Dec 17-18), Pengerang, Malaysia (Dec 19), Colombo, Sri Lanka (Dec 25), and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (Jan 3), before transiting the Suez Canal (Jan 4-5, 2023). Anchorage stops followed in As Suways/Suez Port (Jan 5-6), Lisbon (Jan 13), and Antwerp (Jan 17), along with an overnight call in Zeebrugge (Jan 17-20). The 53-day repositioning voyage ended in Rostock/Warnemunde on Jan 22. Peter Pan’s maiden voyage departed from Travemunde (Skandinavienkai Terminal) to Trelleborg on January 31, officially starting her TT-LINE service.

TT-LINE Green Ship technology

Planning for the Green Ships began in 2016, when TT-LINE contracted Oceanarchitects GmbH (Waren an der Muritz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany). The 2-ship order was placed with CMI (China Merchants Industry Holding Co Ltd) on June 4, 2018.

In December 2018, for the concept design, the shipbuilder contracted the OSK Group-owned (Copenhagen, Denmark-based) companies OSK-ShipTech AS (maritime design, naval architecture, vessel optimization, hybrid technology) and Steen Friis Design AS (specializing in interior design, ship interiors, corporate branding, and signage).

Both TT-LINE Green Ships are LNG-powered and rank among the most environmentally friendly cruiseferries in the Baltic Sea. The powerplant consists of four MAN dual-fuel marine engines (2x model 8L51/60DF and 2x model 6L51/60DF) plus a dual-fuel auxiliary boiler. The engines (combined output 29.4 MW) run on both LNG (liquefied natural gas) and LSMGO (low-sulfur marine gas oil). Each main engine weighs ~120 tons.

The propulsion system includes three bow thrusters (electric propulsion motors) with a total output of 7.5 MW (2.5 MW each) plus two aft controllable pitch propellers (CPPs).

LNG is stored in two tanks (500 m³ each) located on Loading/Cargo Deck 1. With 1000 m³ of LNG, the vessel has an endurance of up to 14 days.

The cargo decks provide 4600 lane meters of vehicle storage, accommodating up to 920 cars or 220 trucks (semi-trailers). The maximum draft is 6.7 m (23 ft).

Both new ferries (Peter Pan and Nils Holgersson) incorporate eco-friendly technologies, including LED lighting throughout, low-heat transmission windows, EV charging points, AirSpace Seal (air-sealed propeller shafts preventing seawater pollution by lubricants), and eco-mode fin stabilizers.

The hull lines are optimized and coated with silicon-based antifouling to reduce resistance and fuel consumption, improving overall energy efficiency.

The ship’s HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning) integrates a Heat-Recovery system (reuses engine exhaust heat), LNG Cold Recovery (utilizes the cooling from regasified LNG), and Alaska-Cooler (supplies cool air using seawater’s natural temperature).

The hull (1A-Super ice class) and superstructure consist of 386 prefabricated blocks assembled into 8 main sections.
