Akka ferry Review
Review of Akka ferry
MS Akka ferry (formerly Nils Holgersson) is a Ro-Pax passenger vessel operated by the German company TT-LINE. The ship has a maximum capacity of 744 passengers and 169 trucks (trailers). Launched in 2001, she currently operates on the Germany-Sweden ferry routes Rostock-Trelleborg (crossing time 6 hours) and Travemunde-Trelleborg (crossing time 8 hours).
The vessel (IMO number 9217230) is currently Germany-flagged (MMSI 211343680) and registered in Rostock.
She belongs to the "Peter Pan" class, with her sistership being Peter Pan/Tinker Bell (also built in 2001). The ship was launched and operated under the name "Nils Holgersson" for 21 years (2001-2022). In 2022, she was renamed "Akka" while the original name was reassigned to TT-LINE's Green Ship Nils Holgersson.
The new name "Akka" pays tribute to a goose character from Selma Lagerlöf's book "Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige" (The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson), first published in 1907. The goose appears in the chapter titled "Akka från Kebnekajse" (Akka from Kebnekaise).
The vessel's powerplant comprises two MAK marine diesel engines (model 8M43), two MAK 7M43, and one MAK 6M32.
