MS Monarch Queen Review
Review of MS Monarch Queen
The 2016-built (as River Voyager) cruise ship Monarch Queen entered service in March 2016. The 176-passenger riverboat features 4 decks and 92 cabins, 71% of which have French balconies. The vessel is currently chartered by the tour company Gate 1 Travel.
The Monarch Queen (ENI number 2336621) is Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057748) and registered in Basel. Previously, as River Voyager, the ship was Germany-flagged (MMSI 211708520), registered in Cologne, and operated by Vantage Explorations.
River Voyager was christened in Basel on April 3, 2016, by godmother Maria Chaves, a longtime employee of Vantage Travel Service Inc. The ceremony was attended by Henry Lewis, the company’s CEO, and his wife.
All passenger cabins feature twin beds (except the 8 single cabins), phones, electronic safes, hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers, complimentary L’Occitane toiletries, free bottled water (replenished daily), and smart HDTVs with infotainment system and Internet access (satellite channels include CNN, Weather Channel, Discovery Channel, music programs, ship information, and over 100 movies on demand).

This elegant riverboat offers open-seating dining in the main restaurant, the Bourbon Street Bistro.
An alternative venue, The Cotton Club, provides an additional dining option ensuring guests never have to wait for a table.
All sightseeing tours are included in the cruise fare. Each River Voyager sailing is accompanied by experienced program directors with local expertise.
The Cultural Connections program offers immersive experiences in each visited destination through themed meals, lectures, receptions, home visits, performances, and hands-on local activities.
Passengers receive complimentary headphones for shore excursions to clearly hear the tour guides. Free wireless Internet access is available throughout the ship.
