MV Prinses Christina Review
Review of MV Prinses Christina
MV Prinses Christina cruise ship is owned by the Trans River Line company (based in Rijswijk, Holland) and chartered by the UK-based travel agency Shearings Holidays. The ship operates on Rhine and Moselle river cruise itineraries the whole year round. Departures are offered from Holland (Amsterdam) and Germany (Cologne and Mainz).
Previous shipowners were Rederij Ketel BV (Zutphen, Holland), Borotra AG (Basel, Switzerland), Royal River Line AG (Basel) and Bonaventura Cruises BV (s-Gravendeel, Holland). Boat's initial capacity (as launched in 1968) was 118 passengers. The vessel was extensively refurbished in 2012, following its acquisition by Trans River Line.
All Prinses Christina staterooms are contemporary decorated, with twin beds (2 lower beds, non-convertible to double bed, wall-mounted reading lamps), seating area (2 chairs with a round-shaped dining table in between), en-suite bathroom (washbasin, WC, shower, hairdryer), electronic safe box (in the closet), flat TV (satellite reception, ship info channel with daily scheduled events), 220 V power sockets, individually controlled air-conditioning. Some cabins are with sofa bed plus a lower bunk bed.
Ship's all 54 passenger cabins are outside. All 9 deluxe cabins are with tea-coffee-making facilities, and 1 cabin is for solo travelers (with single-occupancy rates). All Lower Deck cabins are with porthole windows (non-opening) located near the ceiling (at water level).
Popular for its friendly staff and informal atmosphere, the riverboat is ideal for first-time cruisers as it offers an intimate and most relaxed cruise travel experience. The boat has a stylish Salon-Bar Lounge forward on Promenade Deck 3 (with dance floor, large windows, bar seating, 4-seat tables with armchairs, 2-seat leather sofas), Dining Room Restaurant midship on Cabin Deck 1 (with large windows, dining tables capacity 4-6 seats, serving buffet breakfast, 3-course lunch and 4-course dinner). Sun Deck (deck 4) has midship-forward located covered seating area (with 4-seat tables) and midship-aft located sunbathing area (with deckchairs).
The lobby area is midship on Promenade Deck (at the Lounge's entrance) and houses the Reception Desk (24-hour guest services, information, assistance, purser) and a small library (reading area with books and popular board games). The ship doesn't have a swimming pool, jacuzzi (whirlpool), Spa (massage rooms), Fitness (Gym Room), Beauty Salon (hairdresser/barber services), deck games area. Two staircases connect all decks. A stairlift connects decks Main and Promenade.
During the summer months, dinners are 4-course. Food is prepared by the ship's chef and with locally sourced products supplied from markets and suppliers in the visited ports of call along the cruise tour itinerary. A special event is Captain's Gala Dinner (once per voyage). The ship also has 24-hour tea-coffee station (complimentary beverages). In the Salon-bar are served daily morning coffee and afternoon tea.
