MV Prinses Christina Review
Review of MV Prinses Christina
MV Prinses Christina is owned by Trans River Line (based in Rijswijk, Holland) and chartered by the UK-based travel agency Shearings Holidays. The ship operates year-round on Rhine and Moselle river cruise itineraries, with departures from Holland (Amsterdam) and Germany (Cologne and Mainz).

Previous owners included Rederij Ketel BV (Zutphen, Holland), Borotra AG (Basel, Switzerland), Royal River Line AG (Basel), and Bonaventura Cruises BV (s-Gravendeel, Holland). At launch in 1968, the vessel had a capacity of 118 passengers. She underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2012 following her acquisition by Trans River Line.
Cabins
All Prinses Christina staterooms are contemporary in design and feature twin beds (two lower berths, not convertible to a double), wall-mounted reading lamps, a seating area (two chairs with a round table), and an en-suite bathroom (washbasin, WC, shower, hairdryer). Additional amenities include an electronic safe (in the closet), flat-screen TV (satellite channels and ship information channel with daily schedules), 220 V power sockets, and individually controlled air-conditioning. Some cabins include a sofa bed plus a lower bunk.
All 54 passenger cabins are outside. The nine deluxe cabins include tea and coffee-making facilities, and one cabin is designated for solo travelers (available at single-occupancy rates). Lower Deck cabins have non-opening porthole windows located near the ceiling at waterline level.
Shipboard facilities
Known for its friendly staff and informal atmosphere, the riverboat is ideal for first-time cruisers, offering an intimate and relaxed travel experience. The stylish Salon-Bar Lounge, located forward on Promenade Deck 3, features a dance floor, large panoramic windows, bar seating, 4-seat tables with armchairs, and 2-seat leather sofas. The Dining Room Restaurant, located midship on Cabin Deck 1, has large windows and seating for 4–6 guests per table, serving buffet breakfast, 3-course lunch, and 4-course dinner.
Sun Deck (deck 4) features a covered seating area midship-forward (with 4-seat tables) and a midship-aft sunbathing area equipped with deckchairs.

The midship Lobby on Promenade Deck (at the entrance to the Lounge) houses the Reception Desk (24-hour guest services, information, assistance, and purser) and a small library with books and popular board games. The ship does not feature a swimming pool, jacuzzi (whirlpool), Spa (massage rooms), Fitness Center (Gym), Beauty Salon (hairdresser/barber services), or deck games area. Two staircases connect all decks, and a stairlift links the Main and Promenade decks.
During the summer months, dinners are 4-course. Meals are prepared by the ship’s chef using locally sourced products supplied from markets and vendors in the ports of call along the cruise itinerary. A special highlight is the Captain’s Gala Dinner, held once per voyage. A 24-hour tea and coffee station provides complimentary beverages, and the Salon-Bar serves morning coffee and afternoon tea daily.
