MV Virginia Review
Review of MV Virginia
MV Virginia is a river cruise ship owned by Trans River Line (a German cruise tour company) and chartered by the UK-based Shearings Holidays. The vessel operates Rhine and Moselle cruise itineraries year-round. Departures are offered from Holland (Amsterdam) and Germany (Cologne and Mainz).

Cabins
All staterooms are contemporary in design and equipped with twin beds (with two chairs and a small round table in between), en-suite bathrooms, hairdryers, safes (in the closet), flat-screen TVs (in-house movies, satellite channels, and a dedicated information channel about the ship’s daily program), and individually controlled air-conditioning. All 53 passenger cabins are outside-facing. The ship features four deluxe-category cabins, including two single-occupancy rooms. All Lower Deck cabins have smaller porthole-style windows located near the ceiling at river level.
Shipboard facilities
Popular for its friendly staff and informal ambience, the riverboat is ideal for first-time cruisers, offering an intimate and relaxed river travel experience. The Sun Deck features a sheltered seating area and comfortable deck furniture. Other amenities include a cosy bar lounge on the Promenade Deck (stylishly furnished, with dance floor, picture windows, and panoramic views) and a small library/reading area.
Onboard dining includes buffet-style breakfast (hot and cold selection) and three-course lunch and dinner. During the summer months, dinners become four-course. All meals are prepared by the ship’s chef using locally sourced products from markets and suppliers in the ports visited along the itinerary. A special highlight is the Captain’s Gala Dinner, held once per voyage. The ship also offers a complimentary 24-hour tea and coffee station. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are served daily in the bar lounge.
Built in 1965, the ship was completely refurbished in early 2013.
