MV Virginia Review
Review of MV Virginia
MV Virginia river cruise ship is owned by Trans River Line (German cruise tour company) and chartered by the UK-based Shearings Holidays. The ship operates on Rhine and Moselle cruise itineraries throughout the whole year. Departures are offered from Holland (Amsterdam) and Germany (Cologne and Mainz).
Cabins
All staterooms are contemporary decorated, with twin beds (2 chairs and a small round table in between), en-suite bathroom, hairdryer, safe (in the closet), flat TV (in-house movies, flat TV (satellite reception), dedicated info channel about the ship's daily scheduled events), controlled air-conditioning. All the 53 passenger cabins are outside. The ship has all 4 deluxe category cabins, including 2 single-occupancy rooms. All lower deck cabins are with smaller (porthole) windows located near the ceiling (at river level).
Shipboard facilities
Popular for its friendly staff and informal atmosphere, the riverboat is ideal for first-time cruisers as it offers an intimate and most relaxed river travel experience. The Sun Deck has a sheltered seating area for relaxation and comfortable deck furniture. Other amenities include a cosy bar lounge on the Promenade deck (stylishly furnished, with dance floor, picture windows and panoramic views), a small library (reading area).
Onboard dining features a buffet-style breakfast (hot and cold selection) and 3-course lunch and dinner. During the summer months, dinners are 4-course. Food is prepared by the ship's chef and with locally sourced products supplied from markets and suppliers in the visited ports of call along the itinerary. A special event is the Captain’s gala dinner (once per voyage). The ship also has 24-hour tea-coffee station (complimentary beverages). Morning coffee and afternoon tea are served each day in the bar lounge.
Built in the distant 1965, the ship was completely refurbished in early 2013.
