MS River Discovery II

The 2013-built MS River Discovery II ship joined the fleet of the European river cruise company Vantage Deluxe Travel in 2013. The riverboat carries 176 passengers in a size that accommodates up to 200 on other lines.

The ship is aimed at North American travelers who are mature and have high expectations. Such needs are met with a passenger-to-staff ratio of 4-to-1, a choice of 4 types of cabins (78% with French balconies) and a high number of singles, as well as food geared to the US palate.

Notable features onboard River Discovery II include culture-rich itineraries. On some sailings, the riverboat takes 10 days to cruise the same stretch of water which other travel brands cover in 8. This way it provides more time in port and the opportunity for tourists to explore land destinations on their own, in addition to joining a daily program of included shore trips.

In 2022, the vessel (ENI number 2334834) changed its flag state/registry from Germany (MMSI 211563860) to Switzerland (MMSI 269057824) and is currently registered in Basel.
