RV Irrawaddy Explorer Review

Review of RV Irrawaddy Explorer

RV Irrawaddy Explorer entered the flourishing Burma river cruise market in 2014. This riverboat is among the most modern, designed in English colonial style, boutique ships sailing on the mighty Irrawaddy River.

The vessel is owned by Vantage Travel via a Myanmar-based joint venture.

The boat is often chartered by Europe-based river cruise travel companies, including Haimark Travel, Noble Caledonia.

Accommodating up to 56 guests, Irrawaddy Explorer operates 9-night itineraries to Mandalay from Prome, with the option of hotel stays in Bangkok, Inle Lake and Rangoon (Yangon).

Suites are situated on two decks. The 10 Maugham Staterooms on the Main Deck have French balconies and measure 292 ft2. The remaining cabins are located on the Upper Deck and have balconies. The 14 Orwell Staterooms measure 280 ft2 each.

Most passenger cabins have Queen-sized beds that can be easily configured as twins. The 4 largest accommodations/suites are with King-sized beds.

Cabin amenities include flat-screen TVs with movies on demand, air-conditioning, premium mattresses, bathrobes, slippers, quality toiletries, and complimentary water replenished daily. The Mandalay Suites pamper with butler service.

The onboard dining room restaurant is located on the ship's Main Deck. Complimentary drinks, such as tea, coffee, local beer, spirits and soft drinks, are served throughout the sailing. At dinner, there is also free house wine.
