RV Irrawaddy Explorer Review

Review of RV Irrawaddy Explorer

RV Irrawaddy Explorer entered the rapidly growing Burma river cruise market in 2014. This riverboat is among the most modern boutique vessels sailing the mighty Irrawaddy River, designed in classic English colonial style.

The vessel is owned by Vantage Travel through a Myanmar-based joint venture.

The boat is frequently chartered by Europe-based river cruise companies, including Haimark Travel and Noble Caledonia.

Accommodating up to 56 guests, Irrawaddy Explorer operates 9-night itineraries to Mandalay from Prome, with optional hotel stays in Bangkok, Inle Lake, and Rangoon (Yangon).

Suites are located on two decks. The 10 Maugham Staterooms on the Main Deck feature French balconies and measure 292 ft2. The remaining cabins are situated on the Upper Deck and have private balconies. The 14 Orwell Staterooms measure 280 ft2 each.

Most passenger staterooms are fitted with queen-size beds that can be easily converted into twin beds. The four largest suites feature king-size beds.

Cabin amenities include flat-screen TVs with on-demand movies, air-conditioning, premium mattresses, bathrobes, slippers, quality toiletries, and complimentary bottled water replenished daily. The Mandalay Suites also offer dedicated butler service.

The main dining room is located on the ship's Main Deck. Complimentary beverages, including tea, coffee, local beer, spirits, and soft drinks, are available throughout the cruise. House wine is also included with dinner.
