MS Switzerland II Review
Review of MS Switzerland II
MS Switzerland II is an elegant river cruise ship, full of character and style. Offering 4-star accommodations, she provides an intimate atmosphere and excellent service delivered by a professional crew. The riverboat is also frequently chartered as a hotel ship for business conferences and private events. Her sistership is MS Switzerland (built 1988).

Cabins
MS Switzerland II’s staterooms on Emerald Deck are accessible via stairway. Standard cabins are 13 m² and feature two twin beds arranged in an L-shape configuration. The riverboat also offers four Mini Suites (16 m² on Emerald Deck midship–starboard, and 17 m² on Ruby Deck aft) and four Window Suites. Mini Suites include a double bed and a sitting area with a three-seater sofa. Suites (on Ruby Deck) measure 20–21 m² and offer additional amenities, including a sitting area (two armchairs, coffee table), larger TV, DVD player, king-size bed and two windows. Two single cabins (aft–starboard on Emerald Deck) can be booked for solo occupancy. They are smaller (11 m²) and located next to the ship’s aft staircase.
All passenger cabins feature a partially opening window (sliding upper section), individually controlled air conditioning, en-suite bathroom (washbasin, WC, shower, hairdryer), minibar (stocked refrigerator), flat-screen TV (satellite channels, ship information channel, real-time bow-camera views), telephone (onboard calls only), alarm clock radio, mirrored dressing table (writing desk) with chair, wardrobe, electronic safe (in the closet) and several 220V power sockets.
Shipboard facilities
MS Switzerland II has three passenger decks. Facilities include the complimentary Panorama Restaurant (5-star dining room, accessible via stairlift through Ruby Deck), a lobby area on Emerald Deck (ship entrances, 24-hour Reception Desk, Tour Office), Panorama Salon-Bar (main lounge with dance floor), Boutique Shop (souvenirs, clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, toiletries, sweets), Library (reading lounge with books, DVDs, puzzles and board games) and a Sun Deck with retractable awning, four-seat tables, deckchairs, sun loungers and table tennis. Laundry service, WLAN and Internet access are available at extra cost. Smoking is allowed only in the designated Sun Deck area.
A stairlift connects Ruby Deck with the Sun Deck, as well as the Restaurant (Emerald Deck) with the Lounge (Ruby Deck). Two staircases (forward and aft) connect all decks.
Onboard dining is complimentary, with fixed assigned seating. Breakfast is buffet-style, while lunch and dinner are waiter-served four-course meals featuring themed menus and regional specialties based on the cruise itinerary. Dinner main courses are selected at noon from an à-la-carte menu. All meals follow common dining times. Special dietary needs (gluten-free, lactose-free, diabetic, etc.) are accommodated upon request, and any allergies or intolerances must be reported in advance.
Afternoon tea, coffee and midnight snacks are complimentary. Beer, house wine, soft drinks (mineral water, juices), tea and coffee are included. The traditional Captain’s Reception and Captain’s Dinner are formal events held in the Restaurant.
Onboard entertainment (in the Bar Lounge) includes live music, crew shows, card and board games and evening dance parties. Shore excursions are offered at additional cost at every port of call, with complimentary maps and tour commentary provided at each stop.
