Bimini Islands are located approx 210 km (140 mi) west-northwest of Nassau and approx 80 km (53 mi) east of Miami (Florida USA). This makes Biminis the closest to mainland-USA Bahamian vacation travel destination. Bimini Islands have total population of around 2000. The archipelago includes several cays and 3 islands (North Bimini, South Bimini, East Bimini) of which North and South and the largest.

Resorts World Bimini (port locode BSBIM) is a fully-owned by Genting Americas Inc. This is a premium beachfront complex with a private beach, Cruise Port (private dock with a pier), Yacht Marina (boat berthing facility), Hotel, Casino. Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port's berth can accommodate even the world's largest liners (of RCI-Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels) with LOA length 362 m (1188 ft). Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port is one of The Bahamas' three cruise ports that are not located on private islands - together with Nassau (New Providence Island) and Freeport (Grand Bahama Island).

North Bimini's main settlement (Alice Town) houses shops, restaurants, bars, and is on Kings Highway. The cruise port is Bailey Town. The isle's second major road (Queens Highway) runs parallel to Kings Highway. South Bimini's main settlement is Port Royale. South Bimini Airport serves regularly scheduled flights linking to USA-Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando/Melbourne) as well as to Nassau and Freeport.

Since August 2019, BALEARIA Caribbean offers a fast-ferry service from Fort Lauderdale (Florida USA) to Bimini Island (crossing time ~2 hours). The catamaran ship has passenger capacity 650, max speed 38 knots (70 kph / 44 mph) and offers 5 weekly crossings with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Since 2011, BALEARIA Caribbean also provides daily crossings from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport (Grand Bahama Island).

Virgin Voyages' private island resort "Bimini Beach Club" (Bahamas)

All Virgin Voyages liners stop at "Bimini Beach Club" (Virgin Group's private resort on North Bimini Island). The exclusive Bahamian island destination allows Virgin's Sailors (passengers) to enjoy world-class entertainment from a rotating cast of DJs led by Mark Ronson.

Virgin's Bimini Beach Club offers premium food with locally sourced ingredients and traditional Bahamian favorites like banana leaf-wrapped queen snapper, conch and mango salad, Bahamian rum cake. The complex has 6 bars, outdoor lounge areas with hammock groves, beach loungers, watersport activities, (optional/at extra cost) private poolside and beach-side cabanas for rent.

RockStar Suite passengers benefit from complimentary food service, exclusive bar, outdoor terrace lounge, VIP beach cabanas. The 7-mi (11-km) long island offers extraordinary activities like boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, wreck diving, jetskiing, speedboating. The partially sunk wreck of SS Sapona (concrete-hulled steamship that ran aground in 1926) is located just a few miles off the island's southern coast.

 

Virgin's private resort is located on North Bimini Island and at a short bus transfer from the docking pier. It was built via a partnership with "Resorts World Bimini". This is a 750-acres (3 km2 / 1,2 mi2) beachfront resort-casino-marina-hotel complex operated by Genting Group (Malaysia-based multinational corporation).

North Bimini is approx 68 km (42 mi) east of Florida USA (Miami). Resort's estimated building cost is USD 220 million. Virgin's Bimini Beach Club overlooks the sea and features a large lagoon-style swimming pool. The "resort experience" also features morning open-air exercises (yoga and meditation), afternoon DJ poolside parties, night beach bonfires and live musical performances.

Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port

As a cruise port, Resorts World Bimini was inaugurated in summer 2021 and first included (as both call port and homeport/departure port) in the schedule of the Crystal Cruises' ship Crystal Serenity. The ship's 2021 program (July 3-November 7) included a total of 38x voyages with roundtrip departures from both Nassau and Bailey Town (North Bimini).

In November 2023, Resorts World Bimini Port celebrated its 1-millionth cruise passenger. The season featured multiple first-time ship visits including from the brands RCI-Royal Caribbean International (Enchantment OTS, Freedom OTS, Grandeur OTS, Mariner OTS, Radiance OTS), NCL-Norwegian (Bliss, Joy), Ritz-Carlton (Evrima), Marella UK (Discoverer 1).

Fisherman's Village (Resorts World Bimini)

In June 2024 Genting Group completed the open-air market/retail shopping center at Fisherman's Village near Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port.

The 2023-opened Fisherman's Village previously offered brand merchandise at 7 boutique shops - Coralds, Hidden Treasure, Elephant Gem, Reef, Home Reef, Reef Fit, Beach Essentials, Splash. In 2024 were opened two more stores - Reef Joint, and Rainbow Reef.

The complex is centered around The Healing Hole - a venue that offers traditional Bahamian food, specialty cocktails, and daily live music. The other dining venue is the Amici's Pizzeria & Gelateria.

The complex also has a Marina (yacht/boat mooring facility) providing berthing for 136 boats (at floating slips). Fisherman's Village Marina can accommodate vessels with max LOA length 39 m/128 ft.

A complimentary bus (running every 10-15 minutes) connects Fisherman's Village with Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port.

Cruise liners to Bimini Islands dock at Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port - part of a premium beachfront complex with a private beach, private dock (with a pier), Yacht Marina (boat berthing facility), Hotel, Casino.

The cruise berth can accommodate even the world's largest ships (of RCI-Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels) with LOA length 362 m (1188 ft). The first boat that docked here was Crystal Serenity (on July 4, 2021).

Cruise ship tourists are disembarked directly on the pier (as opposed to tendering via boats). Resorts World Bimini's amenities include gambling (at the Casino), premium Spa (massages and treatments), several dining options, complimentary access to the new and exclusive Beach (with 2x lagoon-type swimming pools, drinks and food bars, live performances for entertainment, VIP cabanas / available for rental).

Bimini is a small, low-lying island destination best suited to a beach day, a short exploration of North Bimini, or a boat-based snorkeling excursion. Cruise ships normally dock directly at the pier beside Resorts World Bimini, so tendering is generally not required.

Independent sightseeing: Independent with some planning or transport. Resort-area beaches are easy to reach, but Alice Town and Radio Beach are too far from the pier for a comfortable walk in the heat.

Getting from the Cruise Port

  • On foot: The pier and nearby resort area are flat, but the exposed walk along the pier can feel long in strong sun.
  • Complimentary tram: Resorts World operates a tram around its property, including stops near the resort, casino, marina area and beaches. It does not provide a full public transport service through Alice Town.
  • Taxi: A practical choice for Alice Town or Radio Beach. Confirm the fare and return arrangements before leaving.
  • Golf cart: Useful for exploring North Bimini independently. Rentals are generally collected away from the secure pier area, sometimes after taking the tram. Drivers need a valid licence, traffic keeps left, and rental conditions should be checked carefully.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Nearby Beach and Resort Area

For the simplest day ashore, use the tram or walk within the Resorts World area and continue to a nearby beach. This works well for passengers who mainly want swimming and sand without travelling across the island. Access to private beach-club facilities depends on the cruise line or the purchase of a day pass; do not assume pools, loungers or other resort amenities are included.

Allow: 2–5 hours. Difficulty: Easy, although shade can be limited.

Alice Town and Radio Beach

Alice Town offers a more local experience, with King's Highway, small restaurants, conch stands and the distinctive Dolphin House Museum. Radio Beach lies on the ocean side nearby and is one of North Bimini's best-known public beaches.

The Radio Beach area is roughly 4 km (2.5 mi) from the cruise pier. Use a taxi or golf cart rather than walking the entire distance in the heat. The Dolphin House is privately operated, so entry should be confirmed locally before relying on a visit.

Allow: 3–4 hours. Difficulty: Easy once in Alice Town. Independent: Practical with arranged transport.

Snorkeling or Marine Excursion

Boat trips may visit the partly submerged SS Sapona wreck, reefs, the natural rock formation known as Bimini Road, or nearby cays. These sites cannot be reached by walking from the ship and should be visited with an established boat operator or organized excursion.

Allow: Usually 3–5 hours. Organized excursion recommended: Departure times, sea conditions and the return schedule must fit the ship's call.

Golf-Cart Island Circuit

A golf cart makes it possible to combine the resort area, Bailey Town, Alice Town, Dolphin House and Radio Beach at a relaxed pace. North Bimini is narrow, but roads can be busy when a ship is in port. Check the cart's condition before departure and allow enough time to refuel if required, return it and travel back to the pier.

Allow: 3–5 hours. Independent: Practical for confident drivers accustomed to keeping left.

Self-Guided Routes

Resort and Marina Walk

  1. Leave the cruise pier and follow the designated passenger route toward the resort.
  2. Pause at Kayak Beach and the marina-side viewpoints.
  3. Continue toward Fisherman's Village for shops, refreshments and marina views.
  4. Return to the ship on foot or use the resort tram from an established stop.

Distance: Approximately 1.6 km (1.0 mi) each way, depending on the exact route. Pure walking time: 40–60 minutes return. Total recommended time: 1.5–2.5 hours. Difficulty: Easy and mostly flat, but exposed to sun.

Alice Town Short Walk

Take a taxi or golf cart from the port, then explore on foot:

  1. Start near the public dock and Bimini Arch.
  2. Follow King's Highway through central Alice Town.
  3. Visit the Dolphin House if it is open.
  4. Continue to local food stops or the nearby beach access.
  5. Finish at Radio Beach before returning by prearranged taxi or golf cart.

Walking distance: Approximately 1.5–2.5 km (0.9–1.6 mi), depending on detours. Pure walking time: 30–45 minutes. Total recommended time: 2–3 hours plus transport. Difficulty: Easy and flat, with little shade.

Practical Tips

  • Bring sun protection and water; much of North Bimini is exposed and shade is limited.
  • US dollars are widely used, but carry small notes for local purchases and transport.
  • Beach facilities vary. Public beaches may have fewer dependable amenities than a resort or beach club.
  • Do not plan to walk from the cruise pier to Alice Town or Radio Beach unless you are comfortable with a long, hot and largely exposed route.
  • For boat trips, allow extra time for weather-related delays and return to the port well before the ship's all-aboard time.
  • If renting a golf cart, return it early enough to account for queues, the tram transfer and the walk along the pier.
