Belmond Alouette barge Review

Review of Belmond Alouette barge

The 4-passenger Belmond Alouette barge was built in Oudekerk, Holland, in 1908. In 1986, the vessel was converted into a hotel barge, with its most recent refurbishment completed in 2008. The ship operates canal cruises in Provence (Southern France), offering itineraries along the 17th-century Canal du Midi.

Only two cabins are available onboard—one measuring 24 m² (260 ft²), and the other 19 m² (205 ft²). Both staterooms can be configured with either two single beds or one double bed. Cabin amenities include a satellite flat-screen TV, DVD player, safe, and hairdryer. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with a WC and shower only.

Alouette barge cruise deals are all-inclusive, covering all meals with complimentary local wines, open bar service, and all guided shore excursions and tours (to historic sites like the walled medieval town of Carcassonne). Complimentary bicycles are available for guests to use along the cruise route. Optional excursions—such as canoeing, hot air balloon rides, and golf tours—are available at an additional cost.

Public areas aboard Belmond Alouette include a sundeck with loungers and a saloon (lounge and bar) with a Hi-Fi sound system. The ship is fully air-conditioned. The 4-person crew includes a chef, tour guide, hostess, and the Captain.
