Belmond Orcaella Review

Review of Belmond Orcaella

Belmond Orcaella is a stylish Burma-based river cruise ship with itineraries on Irrawaddy and Chindwin rivers. Among the ports of call along the itinerary is Myanmar's largest city - Yangon (Rangoon) - roundtrip departure port, as well as Bagan (disembarkation port) and Mandalay. MV Orcaella also visits remote temples and small villages close to the border with India.

The riverboat is named after Orcaella river dolphin found in this part of Southeast Asia. Orcaella was designed in the style of Irrawaddy Flotilla Company. The vessel was launched in July 2013 by Orient-Express Hotels. In 2014, it was renamed "Belmond Orcaella" as the river travel company changed its name to "Belmond Ltd".

The ship accommodates up to 50 passengers per cruise. It features a swimming pool, wellbeing and fitness area, a vast observation deck. A resident doctor is at hand in case of illnesses or emergencies. English-, German- and French-speaking tour guides are available, too.

Orcaella's cabins have Juliet balconies with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that offer perfect views of the outside. All staterooms offer as amenities air-conditioning, satellite TV, iPod docking station, enough closet space, luxurious pillows and bed linens. The spacious en-suite bathrooms are stocked with locally made soaps. Several Deluxe Cabins interconnect, which is ideal for friends or families travelling together.
