MY Harmony V Review

Review of MY Harmony V

The 1985-built Harmony V cruise ship is a futuristic-looking superyacht owned by Variety Cruises (fleet). This luxury yacht is ideally sized for navigating the coastline and coves of the Greek Isles, sailing from either Piraeus-Athens or Crete. The operating season runs from April to October, with itineraries visiting Santorini, Delos, Heraklion, and Mykonos, although the ship can also call at smaller and diverse ports such as Kea (Tzia) Island and Spetses. During winter, Harmony V cruises along the rivers of Western Africa and the Cape Verde Islands.

The vessel (IMO number 8620583) is Greece-flagged (MMSI 237243500) and registered in Piraeus/Athens.

Harmony V was delivered to Variety Cruises in October 2008. The vessel was completely rebuilt in 2009 to accommodate the upscale cruise passengers the line attracts through its unique itineraries and services. The luxury yacht cruises at a leisurely 11 knots. She has dual stabilizers and three passenger decks with capacity for 49 guests.

Decks and Cabins

The yacht has three decks and a total of 25 staterooms— all outside-facing, with either portholes or picture windows. Cabins are priced in four categories: A (Upper Deck) and B and C (Main Deck), determined by location. The only two P-category cabins (Upper Deck) are junior suites with seating areas featuring convertible sofa beds for triple occupancy. Standard cabins measure 12.5 m² (135 ft²), which may seem compact but is spacious by yacht standards. All accommodations are decorated in soft tones and feature individual climate controls, LCD TVs, safes, hairdryers, minibars, en-suite bathrooms with showers, and sea views. Beds may be double, queen, or twin.

Shipboard facilities

The sunny weather of Harmony V’s typical itineraries encourages guests to spend ample time outdoors, whether relaxing at the outdoor bar, lounging on the Sun Deck, or enjoying the Marina Platform, which is used for watersports activities (kayaks and snorkeling gear are provided).

Indoors, passengers will find a mini-spa, a comfortable lounge with an adjacent bar, and a dining room offering all meals in a single seating. Menu items reflect regional cuisine. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, while three-course dinners feature table service. Cocktails and wine are available at additional cost.

Onboard entertainment is limited to the TV in the lounge and in staterooms (local channels only). Wi-Fi is available for an additional fee. A cruise coordinator provides shore excursion information and destination briefings. On Western Africa itineraries, a naturalist delivers onboard lectures.
