Moby Aki ferry Wiki
The vessel was built by Fincantieri at the Ancona Shipyard (Italy) under hull/yard number 6116. Her powerplant consists of four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 12V46C) with a total power output of 50.4 MW. The propulsion system includes two driveshafts with Wartsila-made controllable pitch propellers (CPPs). The hull is ice-strengthened to 1A class.
Her sisterships are Moby Freedom (now Finlandia), Pascal Lota, and Moby Wonder.
During her scheduled drydocking in 2023, Moby Aki’s propulsion system was upgraded with Promas Lite (by Kongsberg), an integrated unit combining the rudder, controllable pitch propeller (CPP), hub cap, and bulb. Moby Lines’ contract with Kongsberg Maritime (a Norwegian technology company and part of Kongsberg Gruppen) also included similar propulsion upgrades for the vessels Moby Vinci and Sharden, as well as re-blading the Kongsberg Kamewa propellers on Moby Wonder and Moby Tommy. The agreement was signed by Achille Onorato (CEO of Moby Group) and Jouni Raatikainen (Executive Vice President, Global Customer Support at Kongsberg Maritime).
