Review of Aqua Mekong
The 2014-built RV Aqua Mekong cruise ship is among the newest in the Aqua Expeditions fleet. This top-luxury riverboat cruises in Vietnam and Cambodia (Southeast Asia). Itineraries are along the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers, and offer departures from either Cambodia (Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh) or Vietnam (Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City). Itinerary lengths are 7-night, 4-night and 3-night.
Besides Aqua Mekong, Aqua Expeditions fleet also includes Aqua Nera (2020/Peruvian Amazon), Aqua Blu (2019/East Indonesia) and Aria Amazon (2010/Peruvian Amazon).
Mekong River cruises between Vietnam and Cambodia on the 205-foot Aqua Mekong provide a true 5-star hotel experience perfectly combined with top-luxury cruising travel. The sustainably crafted 20 designer suites - among the largest staterooms on Mekong River - feature floor-to-ceiling windows. Aqua Mekong is the only ship on this stretch of the river to boast a fully equipped gym, outdoor cinema, screening room, observation deck, and sundeck pool. This premium riverboat offers expert-guided shore excursions to Buddhist temples and tiny villages. Passengers can also choose to explore the unique landscape by kayak and bicycle. A full-time paramedic is hired to ensure passenger safety on every adventure.
Aqua Expeditions' Mekong River cruise rates are inclusive of all meals, selected wines and beer, non-alcoholic drinks, Design Suite accommodations, onboard lectures, evening entertainment and excursions with knowledgeable local guides. Before and after the voyage, the shipowner Aqua Expeditions (2008-founded, Singapore-based cruise travel company) provides complimentary transfer/bus transportation between the ship and the rendezvous point. Breakfast provided on the last day is included in the rate. The only additional expenses include airfare, boutique purchases, cocktails, gratuities and spa.
Following a 2,5-year pause in operations due to the Coronavirus crisis, Aqua Mekong was scheduled to restart passenger shipping services on September 2, 2022. The Cambodia and Vietnam program was based on itineraries leaving from homeports Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

In November 2016, Aqua Expeditions announced two female-only themed cruises for 2017 - on the ships Aria Amazon and Aqua Mekong. Aqua Mekong's cruise (January 17-20, 2017) was a 3-day itinerary from Phnom Penh Cambodia. The "women-only cruising" experience featured a live Khmer Apsara dance performance onboard, tour of Vipassana Dhura Mandala (Udong Pagoda) meditation center, bike ride through rice paddies, visits to Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Cambodia's National Museum, onboard enrichment (guide presentations, cooking classes), also culinary activities ashore (chef-guided visits to local food markets). Deals were also inclusive of a 60-min complimentary spa massage.
Like the sisterships Aria Amazon (2010) and Aqua Nera (2020), Aria Mekong's design, the small number of passenger accommodations, amenities and all-inclusive deals classified the vessel as "houseboat". These houseboats were constructed at Hai Minh Shipyard in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam.
