Review of MS Excellence Countess

MS Excellence Countess cruise ship (newbuild, launched in 2019) is owned by the German travel company Excellence Flussreisen and operated by Reiseburo Mittelthurgau AG (marketing and sales). For boat's construction were used the finest materials and latest shipbuilding technologies. Itineraries are on Rhine River, as well as on the inland waterways of Holland (Ijsselmeer) and Belgium.

MS Excellence Countess has a total of 89 staterooms, all of which are outside and comfortably furnished. All staterooms offer as standard amenities flat TV (satellite reception, ship info channel, real-time bow camera views), phone, wardrobe, electronic safe box (in the closet), minibar, double bed (convertible to twins), bedside tables, wall-mounted reading lamps, writing table with padded stool, en-suite bathroom (single-sink vanity, WC, shower, hairdryer), individually controllable air-conditioning.

All Comfort cabins (on decks Middle and Upper) are equally sized (16 m2 / 170 ft2) and with French Balcony (accessed via sliding glass door / floor-ceiling opening window). Main Deck cabins are sized 13 m2 (140 ft2) and with Porthole windows (non-opening, located near the ceiling). The 24x Junior Suites are French Balcony cabins sized 20 m2 (215 ft2). Suite perks include DVD player and premium bathrobes.

Shipboard facilities

The ship boasts a friendly, light glass-roofed Sky Lounge to spend relaxing hours socializing or reading. Everywhere onboard passengers will find bright interior with precious materials. Onboard entertainment includes quiz games, themed and dance nights, often including live music. A further highlight which takes place during many journeys are events like language courses, folklore or history lectures about the visited region along the itinerary route. Drinks and cocktails are served at Bordbar in the evening. The large Sun Deck features mini-golf course (putting green), heated whirlpool, sunloungers and shaded seating areas. The ship also has small wellness area with Sauna Room and Fitness (Gym Room).

Ship dining includes a balanced breakfast buffet, pastries, coffee and tea in the afternoon, as well as a variety of European dishes for lunch and dinner. The elegant Panorama Restaurant offers breakfast from a varied buffet of warm and cold delicacies. For lunch, salads and starters are served as a buffet, while the multi-course menu is served. In the evening, a fine menu in several courses is offered. Every day a selected buffet featuring international cheese specialties is offered, along with fine grilled specialties in the stylish Excellence a la carte restaurant which boasts with show kitchen. For the main meals there is a menu with international wines. The culinary highlight onboard is the gala dinner. The attentive staff and qualified tour guides are always available onboard this elegant, German-speaking ship.

  • In February 2018, MSC Group and MOBY LINES signed a shipbuilding contract with the Chinese companies GSI (Guangzhou Shipyard International) and CSTC (China Shipbuilding Trading Co) for 4 new luxury cruiseferries. Each ship has passenger capacity 2500, cargo capacity 3765 lanemeters (750 cars or 250 trailers), length 230 m (755 ft) and speed 24 knots. The contract includes the option for additional 4 ships of the same design. Two of the new ships (1st and 3rd) are for GNV, the other two (2nd and 4th) - for MOBY LINES. First ship's delivery was scheduled for 2020. Both Chinese shipbuilders are subsidiaries of the state-owned coproration CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation).
