The vessel was launched on June 14, 2001, and entered service on December 11 of the same year. She was previously operated under the names Olympia Palace (2001–2012 by MINOAN LINES, a subsidiary of the Grimaldi Group) and Bonaria (2012–2018 by TIRRENIA).
Between 2001 and 2009, the ferry served the Italy-Greece route Ancona–Igoumenitsa–Patras (crossing time 19 hours), as well as the domestic Greek route Heraklion (Crete)–Piraeus (Athens). From 2009 to 2012, she operated on the Patras–Igoumenitsa–Venice route. Between July 2012 and January 2018, the ship was chartered by TIRRENIA and served the Italy–Sardinia route Civitavecchia–Cagliari (crossing time 11 hours), alternating in winter between the Genoa–Porto Torres and Civitavecchia–Olbia routes.
Her sister ships are Mykonos Palace, Knossos Palace, and Festos Palace. The ship is powered by four WARTSILA marine diesel engines (model 16V46) with a total power output of 67.2 MW, and features two shafts with controllable pitch propellers for propulsion.
