Celebrity Compass Review

Review of Celebrity Compass

The 2027-built Celebrity Compass cruise ship is a 170-passenger riverboat operated by Celebrity Cruises, with the shipowner being Celebrity's parent company RCG/Royal Caribbean Group. The boat operates voyages on the Danube, Main, Rhine, and Moselle rivers.

Compass is RCG's first river ship and is part of the 10-ship fleet of the new travel brand Celebrity River Cruises. The shipbuilder is TeamCo Shipyard BV (Heusden, Netherlands North Brabant). The Dutch company is renowned for building riverboats for large-fleet European river cruise companies like AmaWaterways, Amadeus-Luftner, and Emerald.

Celebrity Compass's sisterships and fleetmates are Seeker (2027) and the planned (4 boats per year) 2028-built TBN3, TBN4, TBN5, TBN6, and the 2029-built TBN7, TBN8, TBN9, TBN10.

MS Celebrity Compass river cruise ship

The vessel (ENI number tba) will be Switzerland-flagged (MMSI tba) and registered in Basel.

Celebrity's river cruise line follows its successful ocean cruise business model. The 10-ship river fleet brings the signature Celebrity style to Europe's largest inland waterways, introducing a modern, chic, and innovative vacation travel experience.

Much like Celebrity Cruises' acclaimed ocean vessels, the riverboats are designed with a focus on culinary experiences, signature design elements, and luxurious accommodations.

Decks and Cabins

MS Celebrity Compass features 86 passenger staterooms (in 5 types and 9 categories) and 4 decks, of which 3 accommodate cabins.

All staterooms are spacious, ranging in size between 160-260 ft2 (15-24 m2). The interior design features neutral colors, King-sized double beds (optional twin bed configuration), bedside cabinets (with wall-mounted reading lamps), premium linens and bedding sets (duvets, 6 pillows), complimentary mini-bars (fully stocked with beverages and pre-packaged snacks), a mirrored vanity desk with a plush chair, wardrobe, electronic safe box (in the closet), direct-dial phone, HDTV, an oversized bathroom (toilet, single-sink vanity, hairdryer, glass shower with both handheld and rain shower heads, premium-brand bath amenities, towels, bathrobes and slippers).

Daily housekeeping and turndown services are provided.

Complimentary room service offers Continental Breakfast (served in the cabin). Items from the exclusive Room Service menu cost extra.

Besides the larger interior space and bathrooms, Suite passengers also receive priority boarding and cabin access, dedicated butler service (packing and unpacking, reservations for specialty dining and shore excursions), exclusive dining, happy hours (once a day, when drinks are offered at a reduced price or with special deals), priority booking of specialty dining and shore excursions, and complimentary laundry (once per cruise).

Suite-exclusive (fare-inclusive) amenities are the Premium drink package (alcohol included), specialty dining (once per voyage), personalized minibar, in-cabin dining/room service (breakfast, lunch, dinner, daily delights), and an espresso coffee machine (brand coffee and tea delivery).

The ship offers 4 Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites (230 ft2/22 m2, with a French Balcony and a Skylight/glass roof above the bed), 8 Vista Balcony Suites (260 ft2/24 m2, with a step-out veranda), 27 Balcony Cabins (210-225 ft2/19-21 m2, with a step-out veranda), 31 Infinite Balcony Cabins (170-180 ft2/16-17 m2, with a French Balcony) and 16 Riverview Cabins (160 ft2/15 m2, with a fixed/non-opening window positioned near the ceiling).

French balconies are large (wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling) motorized windows that open (the upper half drops down) with the push of a button.

Celebrity Cruises' Captain's Club (loyalty program) for ocean travel also extends to river travel with the company. River cruise bookings add 18 points (Vista and Skylight Suites), 12 points (Balcony), and 8 points (Infinite Balcony and Riverview).

Ship Review (onboard facilities and amenities)

Celebrity river ships' innovative design allows for larger open decks with more usable outdoor space, allowing sightseeing opportunities with 360-degree views.

Unlike traditional river cruise ships, which usually prioritize lounges over dining venues, Celebrity's boats emphasize food and beverages. Each riverboat has eight dining venues and bars, including the Cafe al Bacio and the Martini Bar. Also impressive is the 24/7 dining - a first for river cruising.

Staircases and two elevators (midship passenger lifts) interconnect all cabin decks (Lower-Main-Upper).

Wi-Fi is available shipwide and is included in the fares.

Deck 4

The Sun Deck (named Sunset Park) is a spacious top-deck space designed to provide both a stylish and relaxing experience. This social retreat consists of a large sunbathing area (furnished with padded deckchairs and premium sun loungers) and several shaded seating zones (six retractable awnings/umbrella-like shade structures, plenty of round tables with chairs, live plants).

Forward is The Top Deck Bar & Grille (alfresco dining venue/outdoor lounge), providing passengers with unobstructed 360-degree riverside views.

Via an outside staircase, the Sunset Park (aft) extends to Deck 3's Sunset Lounge & Bar (stern-facing venue with an infinity pool and bar service).

Two large SkyLights (glass roofs) are positioned forward on Deck 4, allowing natural light into the ship's interior, and specifically, Deck 3's forward dining and lounge venues.

Between the SkyLights is the Navigation Bridge (called Wheelhouse on smaller ships and riverboats). The Bridge is telescopic (lowerable for low bridges) and accessible to passengers.

A standout Sundeck feature are the two cantilevered dining pods. Called "Magic Edge", these platforms are suspended over the ship's edges (two on each side/forward portside and starboard), providing a unique dining experience. The concept is similar to the iconic "Magic Carpet" (a large, suspended, movable platform) introduced with Celebrity Cruises' EDGE-Class vessels.

Deck 3

On Upper Deck (3rd Floor) are cruise cabins in categories SA (Vista Balcony Suite/Veranda), SF (Skylight Infinite Balcony Suite/French Balcony), BA (Balcony/Veranda), and FA (Infinite Balcony/French Balcony).

Forward on Deck 3 is the larger of the two MDRs/Main Dining Rooms (complimentary restaurants). Adjacent to the Restaurant is the Martini Bar (with a SkyLight/glass roof). Next are the Cafe al Bachio (with a SkyLight) and the Chef's Table (VIP dining room/reservations-only, specialty dining venue).

Directly from the Restaurant is accessed a Bow Terrace with seating, providing scenic views and an alfresco dining alternative.

At the stern (aft-facing) is the Sunset Lounge. The chic, open-air venue features a corner-placed, glass-sided plunge pool (infinity-edge swimming pool), a small seating area, and is served by its own Bar. Via an outside staircase, the Sunset Lounge extends to the aft Sundeck's Sunset Park.

Deck 2

On Main Deck (2nd Floor) are cruise cabins in categories SB (Vista Balcony Suite), BB (Balcony/Veranda), and FB (Infinite Balcony/French Balcony).

An interior grand staircase interconnects Deck 2's Bar Lounge with Deck 3's Martini Bar.

Forward on Deck 2 is the first of two MDRs/Main Dining Rooms (complimentary restaurants). Adjacent to the Restaurant are the Main Lounge & Bar and the Galley (kitchen and storage rooms).

Midship is the Lobby Hall housing the Gift Shop and the Reception Desk. A concierge provides 24-hour assistance (general information, account queries, purser services, booking dining and excursions) throughout the voyage.

Aft are located a Laundry Room and a Storage Room, which are both crew-only facilities.

All meals are served in the two Main Restaurants (forward on decks 2 and 3). The venues serve an early breakfast and a buffet breakfast. The lunches are buffet-style or served a-la-carte. Dinners are multi-course, with the meals accompanied by complimentary regional wines and beers. Most of the food is prepared using locally-sourced and seasonal produce.

Deck 1

On Lower Deck (1st Floor) are cruise cabins in categories RB and RA (Riverview).

Staff and crew cabins are located after the passenger rooms. Next (aft location) is the riverboat's machinery (Propulsion/Engine Room). Water Storage tanks and ballast tanks are located forward.

Deck 1 may also house wellness facilities - a small Fitness Room (Gym) or a Spa (massage room) positioned forward-midship, but this is not officially confirmed.
