MS Dutch Harmony Review
Review of MS Dutch Harmony
The 2009-built cruise ship Dutch Harmony (originally Viking Legend) is currently operated by the Dutch Cruise Line (Netherlands). The vessel is owned by the Grand Circle Corporation.
The Dutch Harmony (ENI 07001911) is currently Holland-flagged (MMSI 244071300). When sailing as Viking Legend, she was Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057308) and registered in Basel.
While owned by Viking River Cruises AG, Viking Legend operated on the Danube River, visiting Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, with departures from Budapest and Passau. She was followed by her sistership, Viking Prestige. Both vessels were Viking’s first pre-longship “green” boats, powered by hybrid diesel-electric engines that produced fewer vibrations for a smoother, quieter cruise.

Viking Legend was designed for comfortable cruising on Europe’s rivers, featuring higher ceilings for a spacious atmosphere. With her optimized deck height and sleek shape, she resembles Viking Helvetia and Viking Sun but offers greater flexibility. As a Viking “green” ship, she is equipped with diesel-electric hybrid engines that reduce noise, vibration, and emissions by up to 20%.
Cabins
Viking Legend offers 97 cabins in total, including 2 Suites, 66 French Balcony cabins, 24 with non-opening windows, and 5 Single staterooms, across 7 categories. The ship is designed for panoramic river views, with French balconies, large picture windows, hotel-style beds, and spacious open-air decks for guests to enjoy scenic cruising.
Cabin types and categories (by number and location), listed from high to low:
- Suites – French Balcony (2x, Category AA, Deck 3)
- Balcony Staterooms – none
- French Balcony Staterooms – Category A (33x, Deck 3), Category B (23x, Deck 2), Category C (10x, Deck 2), and CS/Single (5x, Decks 1–3)
- Riverview Staterooms (with Picture Window) – Standard (16x Category D and 8x Category E, all on Deck 1)
Shipboard Facilities
The Legend Restaurant (main dining room) and observation deck feature large panoramic windows. Guests can also enjoy al fresco dining on the Aquavit Terrace, located at the Legend Lounge’s outdoor seating area. The ship’s lobby atrium offers comfortable seating with wide observation windows, while the Sun Deck provides 360° views and a shaded seating area. Additional onboard facilities include a boutique, library, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout. The ship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.
Viking Legend cruise fares include Wi-Fi, all shore excursions, ground transfers, evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea service, and daily replenished bottled water.
Viking Legend river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy. These are indicative Viking River Cruises Europe rates and may vary depending on promotions, agency offers, group bookings, or last-minute discounts. On select Danube cruise itineraries, Viking also offers round-trip airfare discounts from the USA for specific cabins and departure dates.

Transfers to and from Viking Legend, as well as airport meet-and-greet services, are included in the fare only when air travel is booked through Viking.
Viking Legend is the first of two ships that preceded the “Viking Longship” series. Her sister ship is the Viking Prestige. Both riverboats feature advanced marine technology with hybrid diesel-electric engines and an SDS propulsion system (“Silent Drive System”) that significantly reduces noise and vibration levels during navigation.
The Viking cruise ship Legend was launched in 2009 and christened by Mrs. Stevi M. Tracas, wife of Steve Tracas (President and CEO of the online travel company Vacation.com, a network of travel agencies). The christening ceremony took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on December 21.
