Regina Baltica ferry Wiki

In February 2012, the vessel was chartered as a hotel ship and docked in Sheringham (Norfolk, UK). In April 2013, she was again chartered as a hotel ship, serving Bard Offshore 1 (a German offshore wind farm in the North Sea).

In April 2014, the vessel served as a hotel ship while docked in Lerwick (Shetland Islands, Scotland).

In November 2018, BALEARIA launched a EUR 443 million (USD 520 million) drydock reconstruction project covering nine ferries, aimed at retrofitting and converting them to LNG (liquefied natural gas) propulsion. The project was partially funded (20%) by the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility).

All drydock works (carried out at Gibraltar Gibdock and West Sea’s Viana Shipyard) included modification of the diesel engines to MAN dual-fuel configuration and the installation of LNG tanks. Each vessel is now equipped with dual-fuel (LNG-diesel) MAN marine engines (model 9L51/60DF). The Wartsila-built LNG tanks (one or two per ship) can store up to 425 m3 of LNG, allowing autonomous operation of up to 1,800 km (1,100 mi). Onboard gas piping was supplied by Cryospain (Madrid-based), while the engineering design of the project was carried out by Cotenaval (Valencia-based).

The fleet retrofitting resulted in significant fuel savings, with expected annual emissions reductions per vessel of more than 9,113 tons of CO2 and over 871 tons of NOx, as well as zero SOx emissions and no soot particles. Each ferry’s annual CO2 reduction is equivalent to the emissions produced by approximately 6,000 cars.

Since 2017, the vessel (IMO 7827225) has been Cyprus-flagged and registered in Limassol. Previously, she was Latvia-flagged (MMSI 275054000). The current registered shipowner and manager is BALEARIA EUROLINEAS MARITIMAS SA.
