Silja Serenade ferry Wiki

The shipbuilding contract for Silja Serenade was signed on October 26, 1987. The vessel's construction started on May 29, 1989 (keel-laying at Masa-Yards in Turku, Finland). The ship was launched and christened on November 6, 1989, delivered to TALLINK on November 15, 1990, and entered service on November 17.

The ship is powered by 4x Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 9R46, combined output 32,5 MW). The vessel design features an interior promenade running full length along the ship's central axis. This revolutionary new design allowed more passenger cabins with windows (overlooking the ship's interior).

During the drydock refit in October 2010, Deck 13 was completely rebuilt. Silja Dream Teather / Cinema, Club Bali (disco) and Chill Club Lounge were removed and replaced with the New York Club Lounge. During the laid-up period (due to the pandemic the Stockholm-Helsinki service was suspended), the vessel entered drydock at  Turku Repair Yard (in Naantali, Finland). The 10-day drydocking (April 20-30) was only for regularly scheduled (yearly) maintenance works - hull cleaning, pipes replacement, electrical works, machinery inspection and checks).

In January-February 2023, Silja Serenade (Jan 18-Feb 2) and Silja Symphony (Feb 2-16) both entered drydocks (at Turku Repair Yard in Naantali) without replacement ship on the Helsinki-Stockholm route during the docking. The projects were for technical upgrades, hull works, propulsion system/bow thrusters maintenance (and installing EnergoProFin propeller hubs for better fuel efficiency). Some of the public areas were renovated, including the Sunflower Spa's shower rooms, Commodore Lounge's Sauna facilities, Deck 7's public restrooms, the Executive Suite.
