The shipbuilding contract for Tallink Victoria 1 was signed on October 15, 2002. Construction of the vessel started on March 11, 2003 (keel-laying at Aker Yards, Rauma Finland). The ship was launched and christened on October 16, 2003, delivered to TALLINK on March 9, 2004, and entered service on March 21.
The ship is powered by 4x Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 16V32, combined output 26.2 MW). Her hull is ice-strengthened (Class 1A Super), allowing year-round operations on Baltic Sea routes in extreme ice conditions.
During the drydock refurbishment in 2019 (at Klaipeda Shipyard, Lithuania), all cafes, bars, and restaurants were completely renovated, including new furniture and carpeting. The kids' playground, shopping areas, corridors, stairways, hallways (new carpeting), Business Lounge (carpets, TVs), and all public restrooms were also refurbished. Along with general maintenance work, the ship's propulsion system was upgraded. The propellers were fitted with EnergoProFin, a Wartsila-made propeller cap with fins rotating together with the propeller. The unit acts as an additional screw and reduces energy loss and underwater noise and vibrations. The cruise ship was also fitted with a latest-generation navigation system. Under Tallink Grupp's Ship Renewal Programme, all vessels in the fleet are regularly refurbished. The program's budget for the 2013-2018 period was nearly EUR 80 million.
During the 2022 drydock (January 11-26, at BLRT Yards’ Klaipeda Shipyard), various technical, regular maintenance, and machinery upgrade works were carried out. The maintenance work included replacing seals on the bow thrusters and CPP-Controllable Pitch Propellers, as well as work on shell valves, pumps, coolers, and gearbox pumps. The project also included the installation of a BWTS (Ballast Water Treatment System) and EnergoProFins (on the propeller hubs, optimizing fuel consumption). Passenger areas were also refreshed.
In February 2024, Tallink announced plans to deploy VICTORIA I (joining BALTIC QUEEN) on the Tallinn-Stockholm route during summer 2024 (May 31 through August 31). The itinerary was via Mariehamn (Aland Islands). Bookings opened on February 6, 2024.
