Silja Galaxy ferry Wiki

The cruise ferry Galaxy operated on the Finland–Estonia route Helsinki-Tallinn during the period 2006–2008, and since July 2008 she has been deployed on the route Stockholm-Aland-Turku. The vessel's construction started on April 21, 2005 (keel-laying at Aker Yards, Rauma Finland). The ship was launched and christened on December 1, 2005, delivered to TALLINK on April 18, 2006, and entered service on May 2, 2006.

The ship is powered by 4x Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 16V32, combined output 32 MW). The propulsion system includes 4x bow thrusters (combined output 7.2 MW). The hull is ice-strengthened (class 1A Super), allowing year-round operations on Baltic Sea routes under extreme ice conditions.

During the drydock refurbishment in 2019 (at Klaipeda Shipyard, Lithuania), all cafes, bars, and restaurants were completely renovated (including new furniture and carpeting). The kids' playground, shopping areas, corridors, stairways, and hallways (new carpeting), Business Lounge (carpets and TVs), and all public restrooms were also refurbished. Along with general maintenance work, the ship's propulsion system was upgraded. The propellers were fitted with EnergoProFin—Wartsila-made propeller caps with fins that rotate together with the propeller. This unit acts as an additional screw and reduces energy loss as well as underwater noise and vibrations. The cruise ship was also equipped with a latest-generation navigation system. Under Tallink Grupp's Ship Renewal Programme, all vessels in the fleet are regularly refurbished. The program's budget for the period 2013–2018 was nearly EUR 80 million.
