Transcend Connect Review

Review of Transcend Connect

The 2026-built MS Transcend Connect cruise ship is a 5-star-rated vessel and the first of the newbuild riverboats owned and operated by Transcend Cruises. Transcend Connect was delivered in July and inaugurated in August 2026. Currently, the company has three additional ships of the same design: one under construction - Transcend Evolve (scheduled for May 2027) and two additional ships on order - Transcend Create (October 2027) and Transcend Engage (2028 Q1). Transcend's long-term fleet expansion plans call for up to 12 vessels.

In May 2025 was announced that Lindblad Expeditions entered into a multi-year charter agreement with Transcend Cruises. The charter deal is for a series of expedition-style river voyages on European inland waterways.

Under the agreement, Lindblad chartered the boats Transcend Connect and Transcend Evolve, beginning in 2026 and extending through at least 2028. Each voyage is attended by Lindblad expedition teams (leaders, field staff) and National Geographic/NatGeo experts.

The vessel (ENI number 02340911) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057164) and registered in Basel.

History - construction and ownership

Transcend Cruises Inc (USA-based shipowner) is a 2022-founded/2024-launched company specializing in full-ship cruise charters to clients offering group travel products. Among its potential clients are MICE companies specializing in affinity marketing, tour operators, travel agencies, MICE planners (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), and private groups (college alumni, sponsored media travel, wellness-themed events, private parties/family buyouts, reunions, birthdays, celebrations, team building, name-brand presentations and promotions).

Transcend ships' booking window (for short- and long-term charters) is between 1 and 3 years.

On April 7, 2024, Transcend signed the order for the first ship (Connect) with the family-owned Dutch shipbuilder Scheepswerf Den Breejen Shipyard (Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Holland). Both companies' CEOs signed the documents: Hans Rood (Transcend Cruises) and Peter Burger (Den Breejen Shipyard).

In August 2024, TDoS (Tillberg Design of Sweden/1964-founded, Hoganas-based company) was contracted to develop the ship's interior design.

RensenDriessen Shipbuilding BV, a Zwijndrecht, Netherlands-based company founded in 1980, was contracted to handle the fleet's brokerage.

Transcend Connect's physical construction/assembly officially started on February 7, 2025, with the keel-laying ceremony held at Den Breejen's shipyard in Orsova (Romania). The special event was attended by Transcend's Hans Rood (CEO/Chief Executive Officer), Matthew Shollar (CVO/Chief Visionary Officer), Kimberly Daley (CRO/Chief Revenue Officer), Carmen Mladenovic (Ship Operations Manager), Gregg Marston (Board Member), Den Breejen Shipyard's Wouter Henstra (CCO/Chief Commercial Officer), and RensenDriessen's Edwin Diepeveen (Director of Operations) and Thomas de Bree (CFO/Chief Financial Officer).

Following the assembly in Romania, the vessel was towed up the Danube River and along the Rhine to the Netherlands (Den Breejen's yard) to complete its interior construction and outfitting.

Transcend ship names Connect and Evolve were announced in April 2025, and Create and Engage in March 2026.

Transcend Connect's christening ceremony was part of the inaugural cruise (from Dordrecht to Zaandam) and took place on August 3rd, 2026, in Dordrecht. Key attendees and participants at the naming event were the boat's godmother Marjia van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart (1961-born former Dutch politician, Mayor of Delft in 2016-2025), Gregg Marston (Transcend's CEO), Hans Rood (Transcend's CDO/Chief Development Officer), Matthew Shollar (Transcend's Founder Emeritus and Chief Visionary Officer), Kimberly Daley (Transcend's COO/Chief Operating Officer and CRO/Chief Revenue Officer), Shawn Horwitz (Chairman), Dirk Heijkoop (Hardinxveld-Giessendam's Mayor), additional executive team members, Den Breejen Shipyard representatives and project partners.

Decks and Cabins

The Transcend ship Connect has a total of 60 staterooms for up to 120 guests/attendees (max), all of which have French balconies (a sash window sliding up and down vertically).

The accommodations are flexible (specifically designed to be convertible, with interconnecting doors), meaning the boat offers 60 identical standard cabins (210 ft2 / 19 m2), 30 double cabins (2-room/2-bath Suites, 420 ft2 / 39 m2), or a mix (when required), with the exact configuration depending on the charter client's specifications.

When closed, the interconnecting single door is concealed behind a floor-to-ceiling mirror. One of the suite's rooms is configured as a living room, furnished with two armchairs, a low table, a two-seat sofa, and a modern daybed by the window, while the other serves as the bedroom. The suite opens into the bathroom, where a pivoting shower wall allows guests to enjoy a double-length shower equipped with two showerheads.

All passenger staterooms offer as standard amenities an Infinity Balcony (floor-to-ceiling/wall-to-wall window providing unobstructed views), Julius Meinl coffee machine, mini-refrigerator (fully stocked and replenished daily with complimentary bottled water and non-alcoholic beverages), interactive TV (media library, music and movies on demand), window-facing King-size double bed (convertible to twins, with bedside cabinets and reading lamps, underbed storage), sustainably produced mattresses, premium bedding (cotton linens, brand pillows), wardrobe/walk-in closet (digital safe box), seating space (writing desk, armchairs, low table), spacious bathroom (WC-toiled, glass cubicle, spa shower, dual-sink vanity, storage drawer, luxury bath amenities, mirror, hairdryer, separate washroom with sink), daily housekeeping and turndown service, individual air-conditioning (thermostat controlled), multiple power and USB outlets.

Room Service is provided complimentary and has extended hours.

Internet and Wi-Fi are available with shipwide coverage and provided complimentary.

The boat has 4 decks, of which 3 have cabins.

Transcend cruise itineraries

Transcend's charter cruise ships operate on the Rhine River between March and December (New Year's Eve).

If the boats are available, charter clients can select departure dates with itineraries planned with durations of at least 3 nights. Itineraries can also be grouped into longer B2Bs (back-to-back cruises).

The itineraries, onboard programming (events and products), and the ashore experiences (multi-day land tours/excursions, private travel, themed events/lectures, media presentations, hybrid corporate meetings, trunk shows, arts demonstrations and auctions, book signings, etc) are fully customizable. The company provides professional customization teams to cover all the elements for a flat fee.
