Disney Dream

The 2010-built MS Disney Dream cruise ship is Walt Disney's third Dream-class liner, with sistership Disney Fantasy (2012).

The vessel (IMO number 9434254) is currently Bahamas-flagged (MMSI 311042900) and registered in Nassau.

History – construction and ownership

Disney Cruise Line (DCL) is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. It was incorporated in 1996 as "Magical Cruise Company Ltd". Disney also owns the private Bahamian island Castaway Cay (an exclusive port of call for Disney ships) and a private cruise terminal at Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida). Disney Cruises are marketed as "family vacations" and feature exclusive activities such as character meet-and-greets, adults-only areas, dedicated facilities for kids and teens, and themed entertainment experiences.

The 4,000-passenger Disney Dream is one of the industry’s top-rated ships for families with young children (under 8). She is nearly 50% larger, two decks taller, and has 44% more passenger capacity than the older fleetmates Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Her design is inspired by classic 1920s ocean liners, featuring a navy-blue hull, two bright red funnels, and elegant Art Deco interiors. The ship is equipped with some of the most innovative features and technologies at sea, including:

• 22 pieces of "Enchanted Art"—framed LCD screens with motion sensors that trigger unique animations as guests walk by;
• Wave Phones in every stateroom for texting and calling other guests onboard (replacing the traditional beeper system);
• "Magical Portholes" in Inside cabins—real-time exterior views shown via wall-mounted LED screens shaped like portholes.

The ship mainly caters to North American guests (USA and Canada). Disney’s approach to age-specific activities and teen/young adult areas makes it popular with multi-generational families.

The dress code is resort casual—jackets (no ties) for men and summer dresses for women in the evenings. Each cruise includes one pirate-themed night and one semi-formal night. On 3-day sailings, one night is casual; on 4-day cruises, two nights are casual; and on 5-day cruises, three nights are casual.

Gratuities are US$12 per person, per day, distributed to dining staff and cabin stewards. A 15% gratuity is automatically added to all beverage purchases.

Decks and Cabins

Most Disney Dream staterooms (1,250 total in 28 categories) are 205–255 ft² balcony cabins. The ship offers 21 Suites, 887 Balcony, 199 Oceanview, and 150 Inside cabins. The largest accommodations are the Concierge Royal Suites (900 ft² / 84 m² plus 885 ft² / 82 m² private terrace).

Disney Dream’s staterooms are among the largest in the cruise industry. Most are designed to accommodate families of four, with ample storage space, full-size bathrooms, and split-bathroom layouts (separate rooms for the toilet/sink and shower/sink).

Beds are raised to allow luggage storage underneath, and each room includes two vanities, a 22" smart HDTV, iPod docking station, and two rechargeable Wave Phones. Inside cabins feature the innovative "Magical Portholes", while Veranda cabins have balconies with two chairs and a small table.

Concierge Suites and Concierge Family Cabins (Decks 11–12) offer access to an exclusive concierge lounge and sun deck, as well as complimentary snacks and beverages.

Most 1-bedroom suites feature a queen bed, sitting area with a double sofa bed, a pull-down bed, walk-in closet, and two bathrooms (one with a hot tub). The Royal Suite includes a living room, wet bar, kitchenette, media library, and a Jacuzzi on the balcony.

The ship has 14 decks, including 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options – Food and Drinks

The ship features three main dining rooms: "Animator's Palate", "Enchanted Garden", and "Royal Palace". There are also two adults-only specialty restaurants—"Remy" (French cuisine) and "Palo" (Italian). Disney’s Rotational Dining system lets guests dine at all three main restaurants during the cruise, with the same service team following them each evening.

"Animator’s Palate" showcases animated characters from Disney films like "Finding Nemo", while "Enchanted Garden" features Versailles-style lighting that changes from day to night. "Royal Palace" is themed after Disney Princesses, with décor featuring "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty".

"Remy" offers fine French cuisine (US$75 per person, reservation required, formal dress code). "Palo" serves Italian fare for dinner and Champagne brunch (US$20 per person). The "Cabanas" buffet (Deck 11) offers hot and cold stations, including made-to-order omelets and sandwiches. "Flo’s Café" serves burgers, chicken tenders, pizza, wraps, and salads.

Shipboard entertainment – Fun and Sports

Disney’s kids’ clubs are a major draw. The Oceaneer Club and Lab (ages 3–10) are interconnected. The Club includes "Andy’s Room" from Toy Story and the "Laugh Floor" from Monsters Inc. The Lab is maritime-themed and features an Animator’s Studio and Sound Studio.

Other youth venues include "Edge" (ages 11–13, Deck 13) with video karaoke and a giant LCD wall, and "Vibe" (ages 14–17, 9,000 ft²) with a sundeck, pool, and smoothie bar.

Adult-exclusive spaces include lounges and bars like "Pink" Champagne Bar, "687" Sports Bar, "Evolution" Nightclub, and the top-deck "Meridian" wine bar. The grand 3-deck Atrium features a golden staircase and a bronze Donald Duck statue. The ship has Wi-Fi throughout but no casino.

Disney theater shows include "The Golden Mickeys", "Villains Tonight", and "Disney’s Believe", along with 3D movies in the Walt Disney Theater. Character meet-and-greets are frequent, and the "Pirates in the Caribbean" deck party includes fireworks.

Spa, Fitness, Pools, Waterslides

"Senses" Spa & Salon offers treatments and exotic therapies. "Chill Spa" is for teens only. The Fitness Center includes yoga and Pilates classes. The Sports Deck has mini-golf, sports court, Ping-Pong, and a jogging track.

The pool deck has two hot tubs and two kids’ pools: "Donald's" (5 ft deep) and "Mickey’s" (with spiral slide). A giant LED screen plays movies. "Nemo’s Reef" is a splash area for toddlers.

The AquaDuck waterslide is the first water coaster at sea—765 ft (233 m) long, 150 ft (46 m) high. Height requirement is 42 inches (107 cm). "Nemo’s Reef" is a water playground, while "Quiet Cove" is an adults-only pool area.

Itineraries

From 2011 to 2022, Disney Dream operated 3- and 4-night Bahamas cruises roundtrip from Port Canaveral, visiting Castaway Cay and Nassau.

The ship's final Port Canaveral voyage was on June 3, 2022. Her last departure from the port was on June 6, en route to her new homeport—Miami. Her inaugural Miami cruise departed June 7 (4-day Bahamas itinerary). Miami itineraries include 4-day Bahamas (Nassau, Castaway Cay) and 5-day Western Caribbean (Grand Cayman, Castaway Cay). Select 7-day voyages include Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica.

Disney Dream was replaced at Port Canaveral by Disney Wish (starting July 22, 2022).

In November 2023, Disney Dream was homeported for the first time at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), following her 2023 European season (Mediterranean from Barcelona and Civitavecchia-Rome, UK-Baltic from Southampton). New itineraries include 4- and 5-night Bahamas and Western Caribbean cruises (Cozumel, Grand Cayman).
