Review of MS Heidelberg
MS Heidelberg cruise ship was built in 2004 in Tangermunde (Germany). The riverboat is owned by the Portuguese company aaa (family-owned financial holding) and operated under charter by its subsidiary Nicko Tours (Stuttgart-based cruisetour company). MS Heidelberg cruises on Rhine River, with roundtrip departures from Frankfurt am Main, as well as on Danube cruises roundtrip from Passau.
MS Heidelberg ship has a total of 56 cabins for 110 passengers. Standard cabins are all French Balcony staterooms (sized 18 m2 / 194 ft2). Single cabins are sized 13 m2 (140 ft2). Double cabins (on Main Deck) are also 18 m2. All cabins are equipped with 2 lower beds, bedside tables, wardrobe, writing desk with chair, small table with 2 chairs, en-suite bathroom (shower, WC, wash basin), hairdryer, flat TV (satellite reception), electronic safe box (in the closet), phone (intercom / onboard only), centrally controlled air-conditioning.
Main Deck cabins are with non-opening window and 2 lower beds (1 foldaway, 1 sofabed), which creates more space during the day. Single cabins are with French Balcony.
All Middle and Upper deck cabins are French Balcony staterooms with floor-ceiling glass doors opening to a railing (false balcony). Some staterooms are with a French Bed (smaller than double bed), some are with double bed (Queen size 1,6 x 2 m).
MS Heidelberg ship has a fore-located Dining Room Restaurant (on Middle Deck) with floor-ceiling windows, single-seating capacity and open seating arrangement. Dining Room menu includes both traditional dishes (itinerary-based on visited countries) and international cuisine specialties. Fine wines and gourmet delicacies are also offered. The culinary highlight of each voyage is the Gala Dinner held here, with exquisite menu and ice parade.
On Middle Deck is also the Lobby area with Reception Desk (24-hour guest services and assistance), Tour Office (excursions information and booking), Gift Shop, Hair Salon (hairdresser and barber services). Two staircases connect all decks. The ship has no Lift (passenger elevator), Swimming Pool or Jacuzzi,
On Main Deck is the wellness complex, consisting of Fitness (Gym Room), Spa (treatment room for massages), Sauna Room, Steam Room, Relaxation Room, The wheelhouse, all railings and awnings are retractable to allow passing under low bridges.
Sun Deck has retractable Awnings (shaded seating areas with 4-seat tables and chairs, full bar service) and aft-located deckgames area (with Giant Chess Set and Putting Green / Mini-Golf). The sunbathing area (midship) is furnished with sunloungers and deckchairs.
The fore-located on Upper Deck Bar Lounge has floor-ceiling windows, comfortable seating (large sofas with square tables, small round tables with armchairs), grand piano (live performances by resident pianist) and is served by its own Bar. The adjacent Library is furnished with leather couches and armchairs. Onboard entertainment includes daily live music performances, cooking demonstrations, quiz games, bingo, crew show, themed dance nights, enrichment lectures and media presentations (related to the cruisetour itinerary's destinations, ports, excursions).
The cruise company offers optional shore excursions (not included in cruisetour fares) in each of the visited ports. Land tours include sightseeing tours, city walks, cycling tours, bus travel to nearby tourist destinations. On all guided shore excursions are provided complimentary portable audio headsets.
MS Heidelberg river cruise deals are inclusive of all onboard meals (breakfast buffet, waiter-served lunch and dinner, afternoon coffee with cake, midnight snacks), Welcome Cocktail party, Welcome Dinner, Gala Dinner, onboard entertainment, ship tour, port taxes. Cruisetour deals don't include flights, transfers, excursions, insurance, gratuities, beverages, personal expenses.
