Arosa Mia Wiki

A-Rosa Mia cruises along the Danube River. She belongs to the same class as the A-Rosa cruise ships Bella, Donna, and Riva. Each of these vessels is powered by two MTU/Maybach marine diesel engines (model "16V 2000 M60") with a combined output of 1600 kW / 2170 HP. The ship's electrical system includes three MAN diesel generators (model D2842, each generating 380 kW) and one emergency diesel generator (Deutz, 37 kW). Propulsion is provided by two Schottel twin propellers (type "STP 550") and one Schottel Pump Jet azimuth bow thruster (model "SPJ 57"). Both the wheelhouse and awnings can be lowered to pass under low bridges.

Due to the Main-Danube Canal's width restriction (maximum vessel width of 11.4 m), A-Rosa Mia could not be delivered via the traditional North Sea–Baltic Canal–Wadden Sea–Rhine route. Instead, she was transported via the Black Sea. The ship was loaded onto pontoons and towed to Constanta, Romania, where she was unloaded and continued under her own power to Oltenita, Romania. The entire transfer process took 22 days.

In August 2014, A-Rosa Mia struck a bridge while passing through the Jochenstein Locks on the Danube (Passau district, Germany), resulting in the destruction of her wheelhouse and rendering the ship inoperable. The 192 passengers on board disembarked, with some transported to Passau and others transferred to A-Rosa Bella. The ship resumed service on August 25 after undergoing repairs in Linz, Austria.

Launched on April 17, 2003, A-Rosa Mia offers complimentary bicycles for use during land tours and excursions in each port she visits.
