Review of Viking Forseti
The 2013-built Longship Viking Forseti cruises on the Dordogne, Garonne, and Gironde rivers in France, departing from homeport Bordeaux.
This Viking longship is named after Forseti – in Norse mythology, the son of Nanna and Baldur, known for judging disputes and settling quarrels among both humans and gods.
Viking Forseti was designed as a “green ship” by the renowned architects Yran & Storbraaten, featuring solar panels, hybrid energy-efficient engines, and an onboard organic herb garden.
The boat (ENI number 7001965) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057418) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
Three-quarters of Viking Forseti cabins feature either a French balcony or a full veranda, while Suites include both. Onboard, there are 95 outside staterooms (2 Explorer Suites, 7 Veranda Suites, 39 Veranda Staterooms, 22 French Balcony Staterooms, and 25 Standard Staterooms) across 8 categories. All Suites have two rooms, with a veranda off the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom. Explorer Suites offer 270-degree views of the river and surrounding scenery.

Shipboard facilities
Viking Forseti dining options include the Forseti Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco dining). Other facilities include an Observation Lounge, Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), and Shop (gifts and souvenirs). The top deck features a shaded relaxation area, Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The Forseti longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.
Viking Forseti cruise fares are inclusive of Wi-Fi Internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.
Viking Forseti river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy, and are indicative only. - "CHATEAUX, RIVERS and WINE" is a 7-day France wine cruise from Bordeaux (round trip), including 5 complimentary excursions to some of the most renowned wine regions, such as Saint-Émilion, Medoc, Pomerol, Sauternes, and Margaux.
- Some departures include a bus transfer to Avignon for embarkation, disembarkation in Chalon, transfer to Lyon Airport, and an optional 3-night Paris hotel package.
- Day 2 - Medoc wine region (Pauillac docking, wine country tour, wine tastings featuring Margaux wines). The Medoc region also produces world-famous Rothschild wines from Chateaux Lafite, Latour, and Mouton.
- Day 3 - Blaye (optional excursion to Cognac), Libourne (overnight docking)
- Day 4 - Libourne tour (optional excursions to Bergerac for truffles or wine tastings at a chateau featuring Saint-Émilion and Pomerol wines)
- Day 5 - Garonne River cruising, Cadillac (Sauternes excursion with dessert wine tasting)
- Day 6 - Garonne River cruise to Bordeaux (overnight docking)
- Day 7 - Full day in Bordeaux with optional excursion to Arcachon (Atlantic coast, Victorian villas, oyster cuisine) or a visit to the Bordeaux food market with a Master Chef.
- Day 8 - Disembarkation, with an optional 3-night Paris hotel package (including the Seine River).
- Bordeaux, the departure port, is itself a major destination, known for its grand architecture and numerous museums.

Transfers to and from the Viking Forseti, as well as airport meet-and-greet services, are included in the cruise fare only when airfare is purchased through the Viking cruise line.
Viking Forseti is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This new (patented) river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The Viking ship Forseti represents the line's Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" concept (by "Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Zhang Ling, a teacher at the Viking-sponsored "Cen He" school in Jinzhou (China) and a coach of the children’s orchestra that performs for Viking Cruises Yangtze River guests as part of the onboard entertainment. The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland, setting a Guinness World Record for "Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company". On March 20, 2013, Forseti was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Aegir, Atla, Bragi, Embla, Jarl, Rinda, Skadi, Tor, and Var. Four of the longships were present in Amsterdam, while the other six attended the ceremony via live satellite video link from the Neptun Werft shipbuilding yard in Rostock, Germany.
