MS Bruckmadl Review

Review of MS Bruckmadl

The MS Bruckmadl cruise ship is a riverboat (Flussschiff) owned and operated by the German travel company "Donauschiffahrt Wurm + Kock" (translated as "Danube Shipping"), headquartered in Passau, Germany. The ship is homeported in Regensburg and operates 1-day cruise trips on the Danube River.

The vessel was launched in 1965 (as "MS Agnes Bernauer" for Ludwig Wurm) by the shipbuilder DWE-Werft at its shipyard in Deggendorf, Germany. The ship was reconstructed and modernized in 2015 in Passau. She has a draft of 1.1 m and a total power output of 410 hp. The vessel’s maximum passenger capacity is 300. There are 120 interior seats distributed across three separate salons/lounges (each with 40 seats). Two lounges are located on the Entrance Deck (aft and forward/bar lounge), and one lounge is located aft on the Upper Deck. The ship’s Navigation Bridge (called the "Wheelhouse" on riverboats) is positioned midship on the Sun Deck (roof), which is not accessible to passengers.

Bruckmadl was the first ship of Wurm + Kock, marking the founding of the Donauschiffahrt company in 1974 by Erich Wurm and his colleague Gunter Kock. The vessel was fully refurbished in 2015 for her 50th anniversary. That same year, she was renamed from "Agnes Bernauer" to "Bruckmadl" and homeported in Regensburg. The ship’s name honors Regensburg’s oldest bridge, Bruckmandl (Brückenmännchen).

In addition to the regular itinerary “Historical Strudelrundfahrten,” the boat is also available for private charters. Each of the three lounges can be rented individually. The ship also features a covered Freideck (open deck), which is often used for receptions and events.
