Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ferry Wiki

The ship was launched on July 27, 1996, in Bremerhaven, Germany. The vessel was ordered by Deutsche Fahrgesellschaft Ostsee (DFO) and entered service on December 16, 1996. Between 1998 and 2012, the ferry was chartered by SCANDLINES, and since 2012, she has been operated by STENA LINE.

The ferry is named after the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (also known as "Mecklenburg-West Pomerania" or "Meck-Pomm"), located in northern Germany. The state’s capital is Schwerin.

The ship is powered by four MAN marine diesel engines (model 6L48/60) with a combined output of 25.2 MW. Her propulsion system includes two controllable-pitch propellers (each with a rudder positioned behind it) and two bow thrusters. To enable reverse navigation, the vessel is equipped with a duplicate bow rudder located forward. Safety equipment includes two lifeboats (each with a capacity of 150 people) and twelve liferafts.

During a refurbishment in 2020 (EUR 2.5 million), STENA’s Mecklenburg-Vorpommern received Japan-made sleeping pods, available for passengers wishing to rest during crossings. The cube-shaped pods are inspired by Japan’s popular "capsule hotels". Each 2 m² pod includes a single berth, mattress, bed linens, adjustable air-conditioning, a USB charging port, and Wi-Fi access. Luggage is stored outside the pod in lobby lockers. The refurbishment also included the renovation of all cabins and public areas (hallways and dining venues) and the addition of a Newsroom.
