Stena Skane ferry Wiki
The vessel was launched on August 9, 1997, and delivered on June 22, 1998. She is named after Sweden's southernmost province. The ship was designed by Knud Hansen (Denmark) and is powered by four MAN marine diesel engines (model 8L48-60, combined output 28.98 MW).
At the time of her launch, she was the world's largest Ro-Ro-Pax-Train ferry. The vessel has a cargo capacity of 3,295 lane meters for road vehicles (cars, trucks, and trailers, with a maximum weight of 2,630 tons) plus 1,110 lane meters for freight trains (rolling stock, with a maximum weight of 3,330 tons).
The ferry was specifically designed to serve SCANDLINES on the Baltic Sea route Rostock-Trelleborg, achieving a crossing time of 75 minutes (at a service speed of 21 km/h), allowing up to five round trips per day. The propulsion system consists of two controllable-pitch propellers and three thrusters. To enable safe navigation through the long and narrow access channel to Port Trelleborg, the vessel is equipped with a duplicate bow rudder and an additional aft-located navigation bridge, allowing her to operate in reverse.
During the refurbishment in 2020 (EUR 2.5 million), STENA's Skane ship received Japan-made sleeping pods that can be booked by passengers for rest during crossings. These cube-shaped pods are inspired by Japan's popular "capsule hotels." Each pod has an area of approximately 2 m² and features a single berth, mattress, bed linens, controlled air-conditioning, USB charging dock, and Wi-Fi. Luggage is stored outside the pods in lockers located in the lobby. The refurbishment also included upgrades to all cabins and public areas (including hallways and dining venues), as well as the addition of a Newsroom.
