MSC Divina

The 2012-built MSC Divina cruise ship is the third of MSC’s Fantasia-class liners, with sisterships Fantasia, Preziosa, and Splendida.

The vessel (IMO number 9585285) is currently Panama-flagged (MMSI 373178000) and registered in Colon.

History - Construction and Ownership

MSC Cruises (MSC Crociere) is a passenger shipping company headquartered in Genoa and Naples, established in 1960. Today, MSC Crociere is a subsidiary of MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), the world’s 2nd largest container shipping company. MSC Crociere is the world’s largest privately owned cruise company.

By annual passenger volumes, MSC ranks as the world’s 3rd largest cruise shipowner, following only Carnival Corporation and RCG-Royal Caribbean Group.

In 2014, MSC announced that its four Lirica-class ships were scheduled for major renovations under the line’s “Renaissance Programme.” In 2015, the company ordered four new ships from STX France and Fincantieri Italy, with an option for three additional units. The first two vessels were scheduled for delivery in 2017 – Meraviglia in May and Seaside in November.

The 4000-passenger MSC Divina is among the largest ships in the MSC fleet. Her design impresses not only with size but also with layout – over 80% of all cabins offer ocean views, and many feature private step-out balconies.

Decks and Cabins

MSC Divina staterooms (1751 total, in 12 grades) include 99 Suites, 1133 Balcony cabins, 116 Oceanview cabins, and 405 Inside cabins. Most accommodations are Balcony cabins (190 ft2 / 18 m2) with 40 ft2 / 4 m2 balconies. The largest accommodations are the Yacht Club Royal Suites (400 ft2 / 37 m2, with 170 ft2 / 16 m2 wraparound terraces).

The vessel has 17 decks, of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 9 contain cabins. Decks are named after Greek gods and goddesses.

The ship offers two main dining rooms. MSC Divina’s primary restaurant spans two decks, and an additional panoramic restaurant – Texmex – features an open kitchen. Other venues include a French à la carte restaurant, a pizzeria, and a wine bar offering gourmet selections.

The tiered Pantheon Theatre provides multilingual entertainment. Sports facilities include five pools, a fitness center, SPA, sauna, and twelve Jacuzzis. There is also a Formula 1 simulator.

Itineraries

MSC Divina’s itinerary program is based on 7-day Caribbean cruises from Miami FL and 7-day Western Mediterranean sailings from Civitavecchia-Rome, Naples, and Barcelona. Divina also operates low-cost Transatlantic repositioning crossings between Europe and Florida.

In 2019, a fleet of three MSC ships offered Caribbean roundtrips from Miami: Seaside, Meraviglia, and Divina.

In early June 2020, MSC announced that in 2021 Divina would be homeported at Port Canaveral, Florida for 3- to 7-night roundtrips departing Thursdays and Sundays. Port Canaveral is considered the cruise port to Orlando – one of the USA’s most visited tourist destinations and home to Walt Disney World.

• Divina’s maiden voyage from Port Canaveral departed on September 16, 2021 – also her first commercial sailing after the COVID-19 pause.
• The itineraries (3/4/7 nights) visited ports in The Bahamas (Nassau, MSC Ocean Cay) and Mexico (Cozumel, Costa Maya).
• Divina homeported in Port Canaveral between Sept 16 and Nov 21, 2021, then repositioned to Miami.
• The next Port Canaveral season began on April 8, 2022.
• The voyages can be combined into back-to-back cruises of 10, 11, or 14 nights.

The vessel (STX France, Chantiers de l’Atlantique yard / hull number U32) has a volume of 139072 GT, DWT (deadweight tonnage) of 13188 tons, and a maximum draught of 8.7 m. The powerplant consists of GE Power Conversion marine diesel engines (Converteam model 16V46C) with a combined output of 43.7 MW (58,600 hp). The registered shipowner is COMPANIA NAVIERA MERAVIGLIA SA, and the registered manager is MSC CROCIERE SA.

Divina is the largest Fantasia-class MSC liner, with sisterships Fantasia, Preziosa, and Splendida. One of the newest and largest MSC vessels (inaugural cruise May 27, 2012), Divina was originally ordered as “MSC Fantastica” and later renamed in honor of the actress Sophia Loren.

The “Sophia Loren” Royal Suite—designed for and with her involvement—is Suite 16007 (category YC3 “Yacht Club Royal Suite”), located on Deck 16.

MSC Divina Refurbishments Review

Drydock 2025

The vessel’s most recent drydocking took place in April 2025 at the Palumbo Shipyard in Valletta.

The project focused on regularly scheduled maintenance works, technical and safety/classification inspections, and hull cleaning and repainting.
