Stena Vision ferry Review
Review of Stena Vision ferry
MS Stena Vision ferry is a Ro-Pax (cargo-passenger) vessel operated by the Sweden-based company STENA LINE. The ship has a maximum capacity of 1,700 passengers and 440 cars or 120 freight units (trucks/semi-trailers). The vessel was launched in 1981 and currently operates on the English Channel Ireland-France ferry route Rosslare-Cherbourg (6 weekly crossings, travel time 17 hours).
Stena Vision's redeployment (from Karlskrona-Gdynia to Rosslare-Cherbourg) was announced in November 2022. Prior to June 2023, the ship operated on the Sweden-Poland ferry route Karlskrona-Gdynia (crossing time 10 hours). With Stena Vision, STENA LINE doubled its Ireland-France service capacity to 12 weekly crossings, as she joined her fleetmate Stena Horizon on the route. Stena Vision ferry Wiki
Due to construction delays, the vessel was launched in 1987 under the name "Stena Germanica" (until 2010). She was the first of a series of four ferries ordered by STENA LINE in 1980. Due to construction delays at the Gdansk shipyard, the last two shipbuilding orders were canceled.
In 1987, the ship entered service on the Sweden-Germany route Goteborg-Kiel, joining her fleetmate (and sister ship) Stena Scandinavica (currently Stena Spirit). In April 2011, the current (2003-built) Stena Scandinavica was deployed on this route.
Following an extensive drydock refit in 2010, the ship was renamed "Stena Vision" and began her current Sweden-Poland service. During the 2010 drydock reconstruction, the ferry's passenger capacity was reduced (from 2,374 to 1,700), while her car capacity was increased (from 550 to 570).
In June 2023, the ship entered drydock at Stocznia Gdanska (Gdansk shipyard) for an extensive refit and refurbishment ahead of her redeployment from the Baltic Sweden-Poland service (Karlskrona-Gdynia) to a new English Channel Ireland-France service (Rosslare-Cherbourg). Stena Vision left Gdansk on June 14 and started the new route on June 30.
