Review of Athos barge
The European Waterways' Athos barge was constructed in 1964 as a commercial grain, sand and wine barge. In 1982, the vessel was converted into a 10-passenger luxurious hotel barge but its association with wine continues today. Athos gracefully meanders through Languedoc-Roussillon region of France and the rustic landscapes of Canal du Midi, which is a historic landmark and UNESCO world heritage site between Toulouse and Sete on the Southwestern corner of France.
The barge ship Athos is owned and operated by Dannielle and Julian Farrant. Julian has captained the barge for 25 seasons, traversing Canal du Midi more than 5000 times. Led by Capt. Julian, a professional crew of 2 hostesses, tour guide and chef deliver fine service, first-class food, and captivating excursions.
This hotel barge is air-conditioned throughout, features bikes available for travelers' use and a spacious sun deck to enjoy the passing scenery. The 5 staterooms are in either twin or queen-size double bed configuration with all modern comforts. The traditionally decorated saloon, bar, and dining area are perfect places to relax. The English-speaking crew of 5 efficiently attends to guests' comfort and entertainment and ensures an unforgettable cruising experience. Athos barge's crew has a reputation for hosting with skill and charm.
