Clair de Lune barge Review

Review of Clair de Lune barge

MS Clair de Lune is a hotel barge (cruise ship) built in Holland and launched in 1997 under the name "Aurora." Originally owned by a Dutch family, she was constructed and operated as a cargo barge for cocoa transport. In 1998, the vessel underwent a drydock reconstruction to become a luxury hotel barge for cruising on the Canal du Midi in southern France. This Holland-flagged vessel (ENI number 03170639) is currently owned and operated by European Waterways.

MS Clair de Lune barge cruise ship

From July through September, the hotel barge cruises the Canal du Midi on a 7-day itinerary that includes stops in Castelnaudary and Carcassonne. Fares include shore excursions to Mirepoix, Lac de Saint-Ferreol, and Limoux for private wine tastings.

Clair de Lune is tastefully appointed with African hardwoods and cherrywood. In addition to a modern and sophisticated interior, she offers superior accommodations for up to 6 guests in three contemporary twin or double junior suites with en-suite facilities—ideal for family charters.

The hotel barge features a comfortable and elegantly furnished saloon (bar lounge with dining area) with large picture windows, a spacious sundeck with a whirlpool tub, and complimentary bicycles for guests to ride along the canal.
