Aura Seaways ferry Wiki

Aura Seaways (IMO number 9851036) is the first in a two-ship series (followed by Luna Seaways) built by COMEC (formerly GSI-Guangzhou Shipyard International) in Guangzhou, China. AURA was delivered to the shipowner, DFDS, on December 13, 2021, and departed from GSI/China on December 20th. The relocation voyage to Europe (Guangzhou–Karlshamn–Klaipeda) transited the Suez Canal and included two bunkering stops—anchorage in Singapore (Dec 23–24) and Valletta, Malta (Jan 7–9)—for loading fuel and provisions (food, water, and other supplies). The ship arrived at its homeports on January 16 (Karlshamn and Klaipeda).

Construction of DFDS Aura began with the first hull block assembly in December 2019. The vessel was launched (floated out from drydock) in November 2020. Her two-phase sea trials were successfully completed in May and October 2021. Construction was officially completed in November, and the ship was delivered in December 2021.

With a cargo capacity of 4,500 lanemeters and a DWT (deadweight tonnage) of approximately 12,750 tons, both vessels in this new class are the largest in the DFDS fleet. The hulls are ice-strengthened (ICE-1C class), enabling winter operations in the Baltic Sea.

Both cruiseferries are Denmark-flagged (AURA's MMSI is 219028116) and registered in Kobenhavn. Each ship is powered by a propulsion system consisting of four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model W6L46).

The shipbuilder COMEC Ltd (CSSC Offshore and Marine Engineering Company, formerly GSI-Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd) is Southern China's largest shipbuilding enterprise. COMEC specializes in ship construction and repair, as well as the manufacturing of steel structures and mechanical/electrical equipment. The company operates two major shipyards in Guangdong Province—Guangzhou and Foshan. COMEC is a subsidiary of CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation), one of China's top 10 defense groups.
