Luna Seaways ferry Wiki

Luna Seaways (IMO number 9851048) is the second vessel in a 2-ship series, following Aura Seaways. Both were built by COMEC (formerly GSI – Guangzhou Shipyard International) in Guangzhou, China.

With a cargo capacity of 4,500 lanemeters and a deadweight tonnage of ~12,750 tons, these new-class vessels are the largest in the DFDS fleet to date. Their hulls are ice-strengthened (ICE-1C class), enabling safe winter navigation in the Baltic Sea.

Both cruiseferries are Denmark-flagged and registered in Copenhagen (MMSI for Luna Seaways is still to be assigned). Each vessel is powered by four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model W6L46).

The shipbuilder, COMEC Ltd (CSSC Offshore and Marine Engineering Company, formerly Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd), is Southern China’s largest shipbuilding enterprise. The company specializes in ship construction and repair, as well as the production of steel structures and mechanical/electrical equipment. COMEC operates two major shipyards in Guangdong Province – Guangzhou and Foshan. Its parent company, CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation), is one of China’s top 10 defense industry groups.

The ferry’s namesakes include the cruise ships AIDAluna and Norwegian Luna, as well as the riverboats Arosa Luna and Emerald Luna.
