Scottish Highlander barge Wiki

The vessel was originally built as a freight barge by Gebroeders Van Zutphen in Vreeswijk (Netherlands). At launch, it was named Vertrouwen — meaning “trust” in Dutch. For the first 60 years of its service life, the vessel operated as a cargo barge transporting grain and various commodities across waterways throughout the Netherlands.

In 1991, the vessel was purchased by JP Leisure Ltd. Following a drydock reconstruction in the Netherlands, the ship was repositioned to Inverness and, in April 1993, began operating as a passenger “hotel barge.”

In 1999, the vessel was acquired by Derek Banks and became part of the European Waterways fleet. Between 1999 and 2000, the ship underwent a complete renovation and was renamed Scottish Highlander.

During the drydock refurbishment in 2019, all cabin bathrooms were upgraded, the onboard sound system was modernized, and new soft furnishings were installed.
