Oceania Regatta Review
Review of Oceania Regatta
The 1998-built (as “R Two”) Oceania Regatta cruise ship is the fleet’s second R-Class vessel, with sisterships Nautica, Insignia and Sirena (Ocean Princess). Oceania Cruises’ Regatta was drydock refurbished in September 2019 as part of the OceaniaNEXT fleet renovation program (2019–2020).
The vessel (IMO number 9156474) is currently Marshall Islands/France-flagged (MMSI 538001664) and registered in Majuro.
History - construction and ownership
Oceania Cruises is a USA-based passenger shipping company and luxury travel brand owned by NCLH-Norwegian (shipowner). Between April 2007 and September 2014, the company (as part of “Prestige Cruise Holdings”) was owned by Apollo Management LP, one of the world’s largest private equity investment funds.
Since September 2014, Oceania and sister company RSSC-Regent have been owned by NCLH, acquired at a total cost of USD 3 billion.
Since January 2026, Oceania has operated as an adults-only cruise line and sea travel brand.

Oceania ships offer luxury cruises with relatively shorter itineraries, as well as Around The World voyages of up to 180 days.
The 700-passenger Regatta was built as one of a series of eight vessels for Renaissance Cruises. The cruise line ceased operations in late 2001, and Regatta became the first of three identical vessels later launched by Oceania. At her debut, the ship’s smoking policy was among the strictest in the industry and remained so for three years. At that time, smoking was permitted only in two onboard areas: a small outdoor space forward of the swimming pool on the starboard side and a small indoor area at the aft of one lounge. Passengers caught smoking on verandas or in cabins were politely warned once and subsequently threatened with disembarkation if violations continued. While such restrictions have since become more common across the industry, Oceania’s continued allowance of a designated smoking area in one lounge makes the brand relatively liberal by comparison.
Decks and Cabins
Oceania Regatta staterooms (349 total, across 16 categories) include 62 Suites, 170 Balcony cabins, 89 Oceanview cabins (including 14 single-occupancy), and 28 Inside cabins. Most staterooms (66%) are Balcony accommodations, sized at approximately 175 ft2 / 16 m2. Most balconies are relatively compact, averaging 45 ft2 / 4 m2.
The largest accommodations are the Owner’s Suites, measuring 620 ft2 / 58 m2, plus a 345 ft2 / 32 m2 private terrace.
The ship has 11 decks, of which 9 are passenger-accessible and 5 contain cabins.
Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks
Regatta guests enjoy flexible dining across four open-seating venues. The Grand Dining Room serves Continental cuisine and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Alternative, reservation-required restaurants include Toscana, offering gourmet Italian cuisine, and the steakhouse Polo Grill. The buffet-style Terraces serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and transforms into “Tapas on the Terrace” in the evenings for a more relaxed dining atmosphere. All dining venues include bar service, and there are no cover charges. Additionally, a poolside grill serves hamburgers, sandwiches, and salads at lunchtime, while a pizzeria operates within the buffet area. The observation lounge Horizons offers afternoon tea, and 24-hour room service is available.
Below is the complete list of Regatta restaurants and food venues.
- Grand Dining Room (complimentary 340-seat open-seating restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; offers French-inspired cuisine with daily changing menus)
- Toscana (96-seat Italian fine dining restaurant; dinner-only, reservations required, complimentary; serving traditional Italian cuisine)
- Polo Grill (96-seat steakhouse restaurant; complimentary, reservations required)
- Red Ginger (feng shui-inspired Pan-Asian fusion specialty restaurant)
Red Ginger is a Pan-Asian specialty dining venue serving fusion cuisine, including a five-course tasting menu (à la carte pricing). The menu features sharable platters for two to four guests (skewers, sushi, tempura), soups, salads, appetizers, and main courses across seafood, vegetarian, and meat selections, as well as a variety of side dishes. Fleetwide since 2026, Red Ginger’s menu also includes 12 Nikkei dishes (Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine developed by master chef Gustavo Sugay), combining traditional Peruvian ingredients with Japanese culinary techniques.
Waves Grill is a casual fast-food venue serving the Pool Deck, offering made-to-order daily specialties and gourmet gelato or fresh-made ice cream. More than 20 items are available, including burgers with fresh salads, coleslaw, hand-cut fries, Surf & Turf Wagyu Burger, Philly cheesesteaks, and cold sandwiches. In the evenings, Waves Grill transforms into an alfresco Pizzeria serving freshly baked pizzas, grilled Italian specialties, salads, rosemary focaccia with burrata, and desserts such as Nutella pizza.
Terrace Cafe & Bar is a complimentary casual buffet restaurant open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating and rotating menus. Terrace Bar also functions as a small pizzeria. In the evenings, Terrace Cafe becomes “Tapas On The Terrace,” serving traditional Mediterranean cuisine. Once per cruise, the venue also hosts an Indian Corner during dinner service, offering approximately 15 authentic Indian dishes.
The Lido Buffet’s Sushi Station offers 45 recipes, including multiple varieties of sashimi, uramaki, nigiri, and a daily vegetarian sushi option.
Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport
From its inception, Oceania’s management aimed to deliver luxury-level service without positioning the brand as fully all-inclusive. Priced within the premium-to-luxury range, Regatta offers an experience that approaches true luxury without the conventions of ultra-luxury cruising. While her cabins are smaller than those on many luxury vessels, the level of comfort, attentive service, and high-quality cuisine often lead guests to feel they are traveling aboard an ultra-luxury ship.

Below is the complete list of Regatta lounges, clubs, and entertainment venues.
- Regatta Lounge (main showroom and theater for live evening entertainment and themed dance parties; hosts daily trivia, lectures, and presentations)
- The Casino (operates with USD bets; served by the Casino Bar)
- Martinis (piano bar serving a wide selection of martinis)
- Two Boutiques (duty-free perfumes, jewelry, Oceania-branded merchandise, clothing, gifts, and convenience items)
- Upper Hall lounge area (with grand piano for live performances; served by the Martinis Bar)
- Grand Bar (wine bar hosting tastings; served by Baristas preparing complimentary illy beverages)
- Regatta Wellness Center (Spa Terrace, Spa Whirlpool, steam rooms, treatment rooms, styling salon, Canyon Ranch Spa Club, fitness center, and boardroom for cards and board games; Canyon Ranch Spa treatments include acupuncture, Ayurveda, energy healing, body wraps and scrubs, skincare, tanning, massages, and exotic therapies)
- Oceania@Sea (24-hour Internet computer room; private lessons and group classes available)
- Pool area (one swimming pool, two whirlpools, sunbathing area, and bandstand; served by the Waves Bar)
- The Patio (outdoor shaded lounge with chairs, daybeds, and sofas)
- Horizons (lounge and bar with floor-to-ceiling windows, live entertainment, full bar service, afternoon tea; converts into a nightclub at night)
- Fitness Track (power walking and jogging track) and Promenade (Deck 5)
- The Library (more than 1,000 books, including numerous destination guidebooks)
- Sun Deck (served by the Polo Bar; equipped with sun loungers, showers, and deck games such as Shuffleboard, Golf Driving Net, and 9-hole mini-golf putting greens)

Oceania Regatta Wiki
Oceania Regatta cruise ship is the line’s second vessel of the Renaissance-class, together with her fleetmates Insignia, Nautica and Sirena (Ocean Princess). Also belonging to this vessel class are the Azamara ships Journey, Pursuit, Quest and Onward.
The vessel (built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard, hull number I31R2) is powered by four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 12V32) with a combined output of 13.5 MW. The registered shipowner is NCL BAHAMAS LTD, while the current ship manager is REGATTA ACQUISITION LLC.
MS Regatta was ordered and operated as “R-Two” by Renaissance Cruises between 1998 and 2002. After the company’s bankruptcy, R-Two was purchased and transferred to Oceania Cruises. She sailed as “Insignia” from 2002 to 2003 and as “ms Regatta” since 2003.
On September 2, 2014, NCLH-Norwegian acquired Prestige Cruise Holdings (the owner of Oceania and RSSC-Regent) for USD 3.025 billion, thereby becoming the official owner of all vessels in both fleets.
Apollo Group provides all Oceania ships with the complete onboard hotel product and services. This includes administration, food service staff (preparation and service), housekeeping, as well as vessel provisioning and crewing. Other cruise lines served by Apollo include Thomson UK (Marella Cruises) and RSSC-Regent.
The line’s owner, NCLH-Norwegian, received government permission to operate cruises to Cuba from the USA with three Oceania ships—Marina (starting in late 2016), Regatta (starting in 2017) and Insignia (November–December 2017). Oceania ships operated a variety of itineraries, including a circumnavigation of Cuba (with calls at ports such as Cienfuegos and Havana) and visits to Cuba as part of selected Panama Canal transition cruises.
