Review of Silver Origin

Scheduled for launch in 2020, MS Silver Origin cruise ship is a Galapagos-based luxury vessel owned by Silversea Cruises and operated by company's "Silversea Expeditions" division/brand. Silver Origin's Silversea Expeditions fleet mates are Silver Galapagos (1990), Silver Clound (1994) and Silver Explorer (2008).

History - construction and ownership

Silversea Cruises is a Monaco-based privately owned luxury cruise line. It was established in 1994 by a joint venture of V-Ships Monaco (known previously as Vlasov Group) and the Lefebvre family of Italy (Rome). Silversea pioneered all-inclusive cruising with the launch of its first ship, Silver Cloud. As of early 2014, Silversea Cruises owns eight boutique cruise vessels, each carrying only 100 to 540 guests. The business model of Silversea is to operate cruise ships in the small, ultra-luxury, all-suite category. The new all-inclusive fares of the line offer such features as beverages (including selected wines), gratuities (none are allowed), travel insurance, port charges and one or more complimentary shore excursions in every itinerary.

Silver Origin cruise ship (Silversea Expeditions)

The 100-passenger cruise ship Silver Origin (scheduled for delivery in March 2020) is one of the most environmentally friendly vessels due to its top-notch maritime technologies and solutions specifically designed for cruising in the Galapagos Islands. Ship's dynamic positioning system allows it to maintain a stable position automatically and without anchors in order to protect the sea bed. The freshwater purification systems enable the vessel to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bottles. The wastewater treatment plant exceeds the industry's strictest regulations.

Ship's technological innovations complement Silversea's efforts to make a positive impact on the region's economic and natural environment. The company also contributes to Floreana Island Ecological Restoration Project - ecosystem restoration project aimed to remove invasive species thus protecting Floreana Island's endangered flora and fauna.

Cruise itinerary program

Silver Origin itinerary program is based on Galapagos cruises operated the whole year-round. This unique archipelago in South America also features cloudless skies throughout the year - the perfect destination to enjoy stargazing. Ship's professional crew provides nightly astronomy-themed lectures on the top deck and visual aids for enhancing the sightings.

Silver Origin will operate the exact Galapagos Islands itinerary currently served by the 1990-built fleet mate Silver Galapagos. The 7-day itinerary (Saturday to Saturday) is between the homeport islands Baltra and San Cristobal.
