Avalon Tranquility II

The 2015-built MS Avalon Tranquility II cruises on the Rhine River through Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Some itineraries are extended by combining cruises with a second Avalon ship operating in France.

Tranquility II is one of Avalon's Suite Ships, offering a refined and relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy breathtaking landscapes from the Sky Deck or sip a drink in the lounge while watching charming villages and scenic views glide by.

In 2024, Avalon Waterways launched a multi-year Suite Ship renovation project. Upgrades included interior decor updates (public spaces, flooring, furniture), faster Starlink Internet (via a second antenna per vessel), redesigned Sky Decks with new furniture, expanded Observation Lounges, updated gyms (with new Kinesis One machines and additional free weights), and enhanced onboard bicycle fleets (15 conventional bikes and 4 e-bikes per vessel). The refurbishment schedule was phased over three years: 2024 (Passion, Imagery II, Poetry II, Panorama, Vista), 2025 (Artistry II, Impression, Illumination, Tapestry II, Tranquility II), and 2026 (Expression, Visionary).

Cabins

Avalon Tranquility II offers a total of 65 staterooms (2 Royal Suites, 51 Panorama Suites, and 12 with non-opening windows) across six categories.

Cabin Types, Sizes, and Categories (highest to lowest):

• All staterooms include: two twin beds convertible to a queen, a 3-door closet with shelves, private bathroom (glass-door shower, hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers), sofa, coffee table, flat-screen TV, vanity/writing desk, private French balcony (floor-to-ceiling sliding door), individual climate control, phone, minibar, safe, deluxe pillow menu, and complimentary bottled water.
• Suites: 2 Royal Suites (Category S, Deck 3, 300 ft² / 28 m²), and Panorama Suites—Category P (25 cabins, Deck 3), Category A (17 cabins, Deck 2), Category B (8 cabins, Deck 2), each measuring 200 ft² / 18.6 m².
• Deluxe Staterooms (Deck 1): Category D (6 cabins) and Category E (6 cabins), each 172 ft² / 16 m².
• All cabins accommodate up to 2 guests.

Shipboard Facilities

MS Avalon Tranquility II features innovative design elements, including a forward-positioned dining room, bistro, and lounge to ensure unobstructed views. The navigational bridge is located behind the passenger areas, allowing for more spacious interiors. The Silent Drive System isolates the engines from guest accommodations, ensuring a quieter, smoother journey.

Dining venues include the Tranquility Dining Room, Panorama Bistro, and the al-fresco Sky Bistro. Other facilities include the Panorama Lounge & Bar (with an outdoor viewing deck), Club Lounge, Library/Internet Corner, Tranquility Atrium Lobby, Hair Salon, Fitness Center, and Sun Deck (featuring Sky Lounge & Bar, Sky Bistro, whirlpool, shaded seating areas, and a deck games zone).

Avalon Tranquility II cruise fares include Wi-Fi Internet, room service, all land tours and excursions (with certified local guides), port taxes, flights, motorcoach transfers, live evening entertainment (local performers), daily enrichment lectures, behind-the-scenes ship tours, food and wine tastings, and 24-hour premium coffee, tea, and hot chocolate service. Bottled water is replenished daily in all cabins.

River Cruise Itineraries

Below are Avalon Tranquility II itineraries as officially announced by Avalon Waterways:

(7-night cruise) "Romantic Rhine" – 8-day voyages from Zurich to Amsterdam (Northbound, code WZA), and the reverse from Amsterdam to Zurich (Southbound, code WAZ). “Cruising-Only” options are available between Amsterdam and Basel (code WAZ).

(14-night cruise with two ships) "Rhine and Rhone Revealed" – 16-day voyages from Amsterdam to Côte d’Azur (Southbound, code WAL), and in reverse from Côte d’Azur to Amsterdam (Northbound, code WLA). These back-to-back cruises combine Tranquility II’s “Romantic Rhine” itinerary with a second ship sailing the Saône and Rhône rivers. Embarkation/disembarkation ports include Basel, Chalon, and Arles, with motorcoach transfers between Basel and Beaune (or the reverse) included.

The Avalon Tranquility II boat (ENI number 02335906) is the 8th vessel in Avalon Waterways' "Suite Ship" class. Among her top features are two full decks of Suite cabins, each with wall-to-wall sliding glass doors and French Balconies, as well as spacious and varied public areas featuring full-length floor-to-ceiling windows.

Each Avalon Waterways "Suite Ship" is powered by two Caterpillar Marine diesel engines (model C32 ACERT) with a combined output of 1420 kW / 1930 HP, supplemented by an emergency diesel generator. Propulsion is diesel-electric, utilizing one azimuth thruster at the bow and a "Silent Drive System," which isolates the engines from the passenger accommodations to reduce noise and vibration. The ship's Godmother is Jann Arden, a Canadian singer and songwriter.
