Viking Njord Review
Review of Viking Njord
The 2012-built Longship Viking Njord cruises on the Danube River in Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, departing from homeports Budapest, Nuremberg, and Passau.
This Viking Longship is named after Njord (Njordr), the Vanir god of wind and sea in Norse mythology. Njord was worshipped by seafarers, fishermen, and traders, who prayed to him for calm waters and safe voyages. He was first married to his sister Nerthus, with whom he fathered Freyr (god of harvest) and Freya (goddess of love). His second wife was the winter goddess Skadi. The name Njord in Old Norse means “force” or “power.”
The vessel’s namesake is MY Njord (2025-built residential ship owned by Ocean Residences).

The vessel (ENI number 7001955) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057387) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
Viking Njord offers two Explorer Suites with 270-degree panoramic views and private wraparound verandas. The seven Veranda Suites feature two separate rooms, with a veranda off the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom. Additional accommodations include 39 Veranda Staterooms, 22 French Balcony staterooms, and 25 Standard staterooms across 8 categories.
Shipboard facilities
The Observation Lounge and bar feature floor-to-ceiling glass doors providing panoramic views. Dining options include the Njord Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (alfresco). Located at the bow, the Aquavit Terrace offers both indoor and outdoor seating and is ideal for relaxation. The Sun Deck provides a shaded seating area with 360-degree views.
Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (souvenirs and gifts), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The Viking Njord Longship does not have a gym, pool, Jacuzzi, or spa.
Viking Njord cruise fares include Wi-Fi, all shore excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.
Viking Njord river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy, and are indicative only. Actual rates may vary depending on promotions, special offers, group bookings, or last-minute deals. Some Danube itineraries may also include discounted round-trip airfare from the USA on select departures.

Viking Njord Wiki
Transfers to/from Viking Njord and airport meet-and-greet services are included in the cruise fare only when airfare is purchased through the Viking cruise line.
Viking Njord is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises Longships. This patented river cruise vessel design allows for larger accommodations without reducing public space or compromising overall comfort. The Longship-class design incorporates energy-efficient hybrid engines, solar panels, and interiors by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented concept (developed by Rottet Studios, USA) enables more spacious cabins with full-size balconies by shifting the deck corridor off-center by approximately 1 m (3.3 ft).
The riverboat’s godmother is Gail Wiswedel, an honor bestowed on one of Viking River Cruises’ most loyal passengers. The christening ceremony was held in Rostock Germany. On March 21, 2012, Viking Njord was inaugurated together with Viking Freya (both in Rostock), and via live satellite link with Amsterdam, alongside Viking Idun and Viking Odin.
