Viking Halogi Review
Review of Viking Halogi
The 2027-built Longship Viking Halogi cruises on the Rhine River, visiting destinations in Holland, Germany, France, and Switzerland. The Viking longship departs from homeports Amsterdam and Basel.
This riverboat is named after Halogi (Logi)—in Norse mythology, a jotunn (giant) and a powerful fire spirit. From Glod (a fire giantess), he has two daughters, Eisa (“Embers”) and Eimyrja (“Ashes”). Halogi was often associated with Kari (the wind god) and Aegir (the sea god), representing the Earth’s primal elements—fire, wind, and sea.

The vessel (ENI number tba) will be Switzerland-flagged (MMSI tba) and registered in Basel.
All Viking River Cruises Longships are fitted with solar panels (mounted aft on the Sun Deck) and hybrid (diesel-electric) powerplants based on energy-efficient marine engines.
Cabins
Viking Halogi has a total of 95 staterooms (9x Suites, 39x Balcony, 22x French Balcony, and 25x Porthole with non-opening windows) across 8 cabin grades/categories, accommodating a maximum of 190 passengers.
Longship Halogi has two aft-located Explorer Suites with wraparound balconies offering 270-degree views. Each of the seven Veranda Suites has two separate rooms and features a step-out balcony (accessed from the living room) and a French balcony (in the bedroom). The 39 Veranda Staterooms have step-out balconies.
The Longship carries up to 190 passengers (maximum capacity, served by 53 crew/staff), who enjoy complimentary modern hotel amenities and high-quality travel and leisure services.
Cabin types/categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:

Shipboard facilities
The Observation Bar Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto the Aquavit Terrace. This bow-located indoor-outdoor venue is designed for relaxation and alfresco dining. The Sun Deck is serviced by the Aquavit Terrace staff and offers 360-degree unobstructed river views. This top deck includes a forward sun deck with Sky Bar (outdoor seating area with 4-seat tables and deckchairs), SkyLight (glass roof over the Atrium), Wheelhouse (Navigation Bridge), midship shaded seating (covered by a large retractable awning and encircled by a walking track), a sunbathing area (with deckchairs and reclining loungers), and an aft sun deck with a putting green (mini-golf), herb garden (organic), and a deck games area (shuffleboard and a giant outdoor chessboard).
Onboard dining options include the Halogi Restaurant (main dining room) and Aquavit Terrace (Lido Buffet with sliding glass doors opening onto an alfresco terrace). Other facilities include a 2-deck Atrium (lobby with a 24-hour Reception Desk), Library (Internet Lounge), and Shop (gifts and souvenirs). Viking Cruises Longships do not have a fitness/gym room, swimming pool, Jacuzzi (outdoor whirlpool), spa/beauty salon, or self-service laundry facilities (laundromats).
One elevator (passenger lift) connects only Decks 2 and 3. All decks are interconnected by stairs located forward (Grand Staircase in the Atrium), midship, and aft.

Viking Halogi Wiki
Viking Halogi is one of the largest longships in the Viking Cruises fleet. She features a patented river cruise ship design that enables larger passenger accommodations without reducing public areas or compromising overall onboard comfort.
Longship Halogi represents Viking’s latest design, incorporating energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and an interior created by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented “longship” design (by Rottet Studios, USA) allows for significantly larger accommodations with full-size (step-out) balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor off-center by 1 m (3.3 ft).
The vessel’s powerplant consists of two main Caterpillar marine diesel engines (model CAT32-ACERT, total power output 2 MW). These are V12 engines (12 cylinders arranged in a V configuration, with 12 pistons driving a crankshaft). The propulsion system is based on two Caterpillar marine propulsion engines (model CAT18-ACERT) with a combined output of 1 MW.
