Viking Skadi Review
Review of Viking Skadi
The 2013-built Longship Viking Skadi sails on the Danube, Rhine, and Main rivers, visiting Holland, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, France, Switzerland, and Belgium. She departs from the homeports of Amsterdam, Basel, Budapest, and Passau.
This Viking longship is named after Skadi— in Norse mythology, a Jotnar giantess who became the goddess of mountains and winter (associated with skiing), first married to Njord and later to Odin.

The vessel (ENI number 7001960) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057414) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
Viking Skadi has a total of 95 cabins (including 9 Suites, 22 French Balcony cabins, and 25 with non-opening windows) across 8 categories. The ship offers two Explorer Suites with 270-degree views and private wraparound verandas. The seven Veranda Suites feature two full rooms, a veranda off the living room, and a French balcony in the bedroom. There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms. Viking Skadi accommodates up to 190 passengers, who enjoy amenities such as flat-panel 40-inch Sony TVs and in-room refrigerators.

Shipboard facilities

The Aquavit indoor-outdoor terrace is located at the bow and is an ideal place to relax, along with the Sun Deck, which offers shaded seating and 360-degree views. Dining venues onboard Viking Skadi include the Skadi Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco dining). Other facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The ship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.
Viking Skadi cruise fares are inclusive of Wi-Fi Internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.
Viking Skadi river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy, and are indicative only. Viking Skadi Wiki
Transfers to and from Viking Skadi, as well as airport meet-and-greet services, are included in the fare only when airfare is purchased through the Viking cruise line.
Viking Skadi is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall onboard comfort. Skadi represents the line’s advanced Longship-class riverboat concept. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interiors designed by “Yran & Storbraaten” (Norway). The patented longship design (by “Rottet Studios”, USA) enables significantly larger passenger cabins with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.
The vessel’s powerplant consists of two main Caterpillar marine diesel engines (model CAT32-ACERT) with a combined output of 2 MW. These are V12 engines (configured with 12 cylinders and pistons driving a crankshaft). The propulsion system is based on two Caterpillar marine engines (model CAT18-ACERT) with a combined output of 1 MW.
The riverboat’s godmother is Countess Fiona Carnarvon (born Fiona Aitken). She married the Earl of Carnarvon in 1999 and is widely known for her blog-style website “Lady Carnarvon,” which documents daily life at Highclere Castle in Newbury (Berkshire, England), open to visitors. The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, setting a Guinness World Record for “Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company.” On March 20, 2013, Skadi was inaugurated alongside the Viking longships Aegir, Atla, Bragi, Embla, Forseti, Jarl, Rinda, Tor, and Var. Four of these ships were present in Amsterdam, while the remaining six participated via live satellite link from Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany.
