Viking Ingvi

The 2014-built Longship Viking Ingvi cruises on the Rhine River through Holland, Germany, France, and Switzerland, with departures from Amsterdam, Budapest, and Basel.

This Viking longship is named after Ingvi/Yngvi – in Norse mythology, considered the true name of Freyr (god of fertility and prosperity, and ancestor of the Vikings’ sacred kings, who exercised the roles of high priest and judge).

Viking Ingvi was designed by the renowned architects Yran & Storbraaten, also known for their work on Seabourn Yachts.

The vessel (ENI number 7001985) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057465) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Viking Ingvi has a total of 95 cabins across 8 categories. She offers two Explorer Suites with 270-degree views and private wraparound verandas. The seven Veranda Suites feature two full rooms, a veranda off the living room, and a French balcony in the bedroom. There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms, 25 Standard Staterooms, and 22 French Balcony Staterooms.

Shipboard facilities

Viking Ingvi’s dining options include the Ingvi Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). The Aquavit indoor-outdoor terrace is located at the bow and is an ideal place for relaxation, along with the Sun Deck, which features shaded seating areas and 360-degree views. The Observation Lounge and Bar have floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views. Other facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

The following are Viking Ingvi river cruise itineraries by theme, as officially announced by Viking Cruises:

• "RHINE GETAWAY" – 7-day cruises from Amsterdam to Basel and vice versa, visiting 4 countries (Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland) with 6 complimentary land tours/excursions. These itineraries include disembarkation in Mannheim (for the Heidelberg tour, with re-embarkation in Speyer) and in Kehl (for the Strasbourg tour). Disembarkation in Amsterdam offers an optional 2-night hotel package.
• "GRAND EUROPEAN TOUR" – 14-day Rhine and Danube cruises from Amsterdam to Budapest and vice versa. These itineraries include passage through the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal (Germany), visits to 5 countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Holland), and 13 complimentary land tours/excursions. On departures from Budapest, sailing begins in the evening of Day 2 and ends in Amsterdam (with an optional 2-night hotel package). Disembarkation in Budapest includes an optional 3-night Prague hotel package (Czech Republic).
• "TULIPS and WINDMILLS" – 9-day springtime cruises in Belgium and Holland, round-trip from Amsterdam, with 8 complimentary land tours/excursions. On departures from Amsterdam, sailing begins on Day 2. Highlights include an Amsterdam canal cruise on a glass-domed boat, cruising on Lake IJsselmeer (Zuiderzee), visits to Paleis Het Loo gardens (via Arnhem), Kinderdijk (windmills), Antwerp (on the Scheldt River), Ghent (with a bus transfer to Bruges), travel through the Walcheren region (with a stop in Veere), the Holland Delta Works (system of dams, locks, dikes, and storm barriers protecting the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta), Rotterdam (with a bus transfer to Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse – the world’s second-largest floral garden after Dubai’s Miracle Garden), and an overnight stay in Amsterdam.

Viking Ingvi is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The vessel represents the line’s latest Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented longship design by Rottet Studios (USA) enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Anne Morgan Scully, president of McCabe World Travel Inc (an agency specializing in space, weekend getaway, honeymoon, vacation, and cruise travel deals, and part of the Virtuoso group of top-selling luxury travel agencies). The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland. On March 17, 2014, Ingvi was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Alsvin, Baldur, Bestla, Delling, Eistla, Gullveig, Lif, and Magni.
