Viking Jarl Review

Review of Viking Jarl

The 2013-built Longship Viking Jarl cruises on the Danube, Rhine, and Main rivers, visiting Holland, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Belgium, with departures from Amsterdam, Budapest, and Nuremberg.

This Viking longship is named after Jarl – in Norse mythology, the noble son of the god Heimdal, who, disguised as a human, fathered Jarl and his two brothers, Karl and Thrall, thus creating the three main social classes: nobility (earls), freemen, and serfs.

The vessel (ENI number 7001970) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057420) and registered in Basel.

There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms, 25 Standard Staterooms (with non-opening windows), and 22 French Balcony Staterooms.

The Aquavit indoor-outdoor terrace is located at the bow and is an ideal spot for relaxation, along with the Sun Deck, which offers shaded seating areas and 360-degree views. The Observation Lounge and Bar feature floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views. Other facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Jarl cruise deals typically include Wi-Fi, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and replenished daily bottled water.

Viking Jarl river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative and may vary when booking Viking River Cruises Europe itineraries, depending on travel agency promotions, special offers and discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. Viking Jarl Wiki

Transfers to and from the Viking Jarl and airport meet-and-greet services are included in the fare only when airfare is purchased through the Viking cruise line.

Viking Jarl is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The vessel represents the line’s latest Longship-class concept. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented longship design by Rottet Studios (USA) enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Sabine Rhabek, a founding member of the AKH Wien emergency room team (AKH stands for Vienna General Hospital, the city’s university medical center). She also worked as a nurse at the UN Mission Hospital in Iran during the Gulf War. The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland, setting a Guinness World Record for “Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company.” On March 20, 2013, Jarl was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Aegir, Atla, Bragi, Embla, Forseti, Rinda, Skadi, Tor, and Var. Four of the vessels were present in Amsterdam, while the other six participated via live satellite link from the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany.
