Viking Delling

Longship Viking Delling cruises on the Rhone and Saone rivers in France, departing from Lyon and Avignon. This Viking longship is named after Dellingr – in Norse mythology, the god and father of the day (married to Nott, the goddess of the night).

The vessel (ENI number 7001982) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057462) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Approximately three-quarters of Viking Delling cabins feature either a French balcony or a full veranda, while suites offer both. Onboard, there are 95 outside staterooms (2 Explorer Suites, 7 Veranda Suites, 39 Veranda Staterooms, 20 French Balcony Staterooms, and 27 Standard Staterooms) across 8 categories. All suites have two rooms, with a veranda off the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom. Explorer Suites provide 270-degree views of the river and surrounding scenery.

Shipboard facilities

The Viking Cruises Viking Delling longship was designed as a “green ship” by architects Yran & Storbraaten, featuring solar panels, hybrid energy-efficient engines, and an organic herb garden. Dining options include the Delling Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Additional facilities include an Observation Lounge, Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and a top deck with a shaded relaxation area, Sky Bar, herbal garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The Delling longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Delling cruise fares include Internet (Wi-Fi), all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking Delling river cruise prices are per person, based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On select itineraries and dates, Viking may offer discounted round-trip airfare from the USA (available for certain cabins or sailings).

• “PORTRAITS OF SOUTHERN FRANCE” – 7-day Rhone and Saone river cruises from Avignon to Chalon, and the reverse from Lyon/Chalon to Avignon. These itineraries include 6 complimentary land tours and excursions in the Provence and Burgundy (France’s wine regions).
• Also included in Viking France river cruise fares are bus transfers (Lyon to Chalon embarkation, Avignon to Marseille airport), scenic drives (Pommard-Volnay-Meursault), and visits to Beaune (cellar wine tasting), Tournon (red wine tasting), and Chateauneuf-du-Pape (wine tasting).

Viking Delling is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The vessel represents the line’s Longship-class design, featuring energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented “longship” concept, developed by Rottet Studios (USA), enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.

The riverboat’s godmother is Mrs. Ayako Ward, a renowned food critic and cruise travel writer. She is also the wife of Douglas Ward, author of the bestselling Berlitz travel guides “Cruising & Ships” and “River Cruising in Europe.” The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland. On March 17, 2014, Delling was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Alsvin, Baldur, Bestla, Eistla, Gullveig, Ingvi, Lif, and Magni.
