Viking Einar Review

Review of Viking Einar

The 2019-built Longship Viking Einar is one of the six Viking River Cruises vessels delivered in 2019. The other sister ships launched that year are Sigrun, Sigyn, Tir, Ullur, and Vali. These riverboats were deployed in Europe, operating on the Rhine and Danube rivers.

Each Viking Longship features a patented corridor configuration, modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment programs, themed onboard entertainment, efficient use of public spaces, the signature Aquavit Terrace lounge, and a large number of balcony cabins (including two of the European river cruise industry’s largest suites, each with a separate bedroom and living room).

The vessel (ENI number 7002108) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057687) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Viking Einar has a total of 95 staterooms (including 9 Suites, 22 French Balcony cabins, and 25 Standard cabins with non-opening windows) across 8 categories. The longship features two Explorer Suites with 270-degree panoramic views and private wraparound balconies. The ship’s 7 Veranda Suites have two separate rooms – a living room (with a step-out balcony) and a bedroom (with a French balcony). There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms.

Cabin types and categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:

  • Suites – ES (x2, Deck 3), AA (x7, Deck 3)
  • Balcony Staterooms – A (x20, Deck 3), B (x17, Deck 2)
  • French Balcony Staterooms (with floor-to-ceiling door-windows) – C (x5, Deck 3), D (x15, Deck 2)
  • RiverView Staterooms – E (x18, Deck 1), F (x7, Deck 1)

Shipboard facilities

The Observation Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views. Dining options onboard Viking Einar include the Einar Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). The Aquavit Terrace (indoor-outdoor lounge) is located at the ship’s bow. The Sun Deck offers both sunbathing and shaded seating areas with 360-degree views. Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, herbal garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Einar cruise fares include Internet (Wi-Fi), all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.

Viking Einar river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On select itineraries and dates, Viking may offer discounted round-trip airfare from the USA (available for certain cabins or sailings).

Viking Einar Wiki

In 2019, together with Einar, Viking River Cruises launched the longships Vali, Sigrun, Sigyn, Tir, Ullur, and Helgrim. The seven-ship “virtual” naming ceremony was held via satellite connections on March 19, 2019, across four river ports – Basel, Switzerland (Sigrun and Einar), Rostock, Germany (Ullur and Sigyn), Brunsbuttel, Germany (Vali and Tir), and Oporto, Portugal (Helgrim). Einar’s godmother is Leah Talactac (Viking Group’s Executive Vice President, Controller, and Chief Accountant).

Transfers to/from the Viking Einar and airport meet-and-greet services are included in the cruise fare only when airfare is purchased through Viking Cruises.

Viking Einar is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The vessel represents the company’s Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interior design by Yran & Storbraaten (Norway). The patented “longship” concept, developed by Rottet Studios (USA), enables significantly larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor approximately 1 m (3.3 ft) off-center.
