Viking Vali Review
Review of Viking Vali
The 2019-built Longship Viking Vali is one of the six Viking River Cruises ships delivered in 2019. The other sister ships launched that year are Einar, Sigrun, Sigyn, Tir, Ullur, and Vali. These riverboats were deployed in Europe on the Rhine and Danube rivers.
Each Viking longship features an innovative (patented) corridor configuration, modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment programs, themed onboard entertainment, and efficiently designed public spaces. Highlights include Viking’s signature Aquavit Terrace lounge and a large number of balcony cabins, including two of the European river cruise industry’s largest suites, each with a separate bedroom and living room.

The vessel (ENI number 7002111) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057691) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
Viking Vali has a total of 95 cabins (including 9 Suites, 22 French Balcony staterooms, and 25 with non-opening windows) across 8 categories. Longship Vali features two Explorer Suites with 270-degree panoramic views and private wraparound balconies. The ship’s 7 Veranda Suites include two separate rooms – a living room (with a step-out balcony) and a bedroom (with a French balcony). There are also 39 Veranda Staterooms.
Cabin Types/Categories (number, location), from highest to lowest:
- Suites - ES (x2, Deck 3), AA (x7, Deck 3)
- Balcony Staterooms - A (x20, Deck 3), B (x17, Deck 2)
- French Balcony Staterooms (with floor-to-ceiling door-windows) - C (x5, Deck 3), D (x15, Deck 2)
- RiverView Staterooms - E (x18, Deck 1), F (x7, Deck 1)
Shipboard facilities
Viking Vali’s dining options include the main Restaurant (dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco dining). The Aquavit Terrace (indoor-outdoor lounge) is located at the bow. The Observation Lounge features floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views, while the Sun Deck offers both sunbathing and shaded seating areas with 360-degree views. Additional facilities include an Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not feature a gym, swimming pool, whirlpool, or spa.
Viking Vali cruise fares include Wi-Fi Internet, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and daily replenished bottled water.
Viking Vali river cruise prices are per person and based on double occupancy. These rates are indicative only and may vary depending on travel agency promotions, special offers, discounts, group bookings, or last-minute deals. On select itineraries and departure dates, Viking may also offer discounted round-trip USA airfare packages (available for specific cabins or sailings).

Viking Vali Wiki
In 2019, together with Vali, Viking River Cruises launched the longships Einar, Sigrun, Sigyn, Tir, Ullur, and Helgrim. The seven-ship "virtual" naming ceremony was held on March 19, 2019, via satellite connections across four river ports – Basel Switzerland (Sigrun and Einar), Rostock Germany (Ullur and Sigyn), Brunsbuttel Germany (Vali and Tir), and Oporto Portugal (Helgrim). Vali’s godmother is Minxuan Zhao (Viking China’s Executive Manager).
Transfers to and from Viking Vali, as well as airport meet-and-greet services, are included in the fare only when air travel is purchased through Viking Cruises.
Viking Vali is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This new (patented) river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort. The vessel represents the company’s latest Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels, and interiors designed by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" design ("Rottet Studios", USA) enables significantly larger staterooms with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is achieved by shifting the deck corridor off-center by 1 m (3.3 ft).
