Viking Hild

The 2016-built Longship Viking Hild cruises on the Rhine and Moselle rivers through France, Germany, and Switzerland. The ship departs from homeport Paris City (France).

This Viking longship is named after the Valkyrie Hildr (Old Norse for “battle”). Hildr (daughter of Högni and wife of Hedin) was believed to have the power to revive the dead on the battlefield, which she used to sustain the conflict between Hedin and Högni.

Viking Hild features an innovative corridor configuration (patented design), modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment programs, themed onboard entertainment, efficient use of public spaces, the signature Aquavit Terrace lounge, and numerous cabins with step-out balconies. Each Viking longship-class riverboat also includes two of the largest suites in the European river cruise industry.

The vessel (ENI number 7002058) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057586) and registered in Basel.

Viking Hild dining options include the Hild Restaurant (main dining room) and the Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Other facilities include an Observation Lounge, Atrium (lobby), Library (with Internet access), Shop (gifts and souvenirs), and the top deck featuring a shaded relaxation area, Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, and shuffleboard. The longship does not have a gym, pool, jacuzzi, or spa.

Viking Hild river cruise deals typically include Wi-Fi, all tours and excursions, ground transfers, room service, live evening entertainment, daily lectures, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee and tea, and replenished daily bottled water.

The Rhine-Moselle route passes ancient castles, vineyards, Trier’s Roman heritage sites, the Lorelei Rock, and the German towns of Cochem, Mainz, and Bernkastel, as well as visits to Luxembourg City and Strasbourg.
• These packages include an 8-day river cruise, two 2-night hotel stays (Le Meridien Etoile Paris and Zurich Marriott), 10 guided tours, 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 7 dinners, complimentary beverages (wine, beer, and soft drinks with lunch and dinner), free Wi-Fi, visits to 6 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and port charges.

Viking Hild is part of the latest generation of Viking Cruises longships. This patented river cruise ship design allows for larger accommodations without reducing the size of public areas or compromising overall comfort.

The ship’s naming ceremony took place on March 7, 2017, as part of a typical Viking “group christening” event. The ceremony was held in Koblenz, Germany and also included the longship Viking Herja. The riverboat’s godmother is Princess Stephanie Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (CEO of Weingut Furst Lowenstein winery, located in Lower Franconia). The ceremonial bottle was Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
